Living in Dallas and watching Barber and Jones since their rookie training camps, it's always been evident that Barber runs harder, stronger, and more consistent. Give me the guy that's always gaining positive yardage...give me 4,4,4,4 instead of 2,2,2,8...it wears down the defense and keeps long drives alive. In a TD league he's always been a commodity, but in more traditional leagues he's the next potential monster.
Why should you trade for Barber now?!?
1) Because Julius has had 2 minor concussions thus far this season and if he has a 3rd soon he'll be forced by the league to miss time. The talk of the town on Dallas sports radio is how hard Barber runs. Because of this, Julius has tried to bang in the middle and he's suffered from it--he's a Cadillac, not a Hummer.
2) Julius is in a contract year. If he's offered a decent deal outside of Valley Ranch the Cowboys won't spend the money to match. Romo's looking like he'll cost $10 million per year and with two first round picks next year, the 'Boys will be looking to allocate those dollars on top talent at WR and CB--there's only so much cap to go around.
3) Tyson Thompson is a capable 'mix-it-up' back and will fill JJ's shoes when he leaves.
4) Marion the Barbarian will bang for AT LEAST 1,500 yards and 20 TD's in a contract year in 2008.
The only wildcard is JJ deciding to take a back-up role with back-up money in Big D, but I think he's like his brother and will catch on elsewhere with a team that needs him more than Dallas.
Bold Prediction:
New England @ Dallas in Week 6: New England 27, Dallas 31
