Marion the Barbarian (1 Viewer)

Living in Dallas and watching Barber and Jones since their rookie training camps, it's always been evident that Barber runs harder, stronger, and more consistent. Give me the guy that's always gaining positive yardage...give me 4,4,4,4 instead of 2,2,2,8...it wears down the defense and keeps long drives alive. In a TD league he's always been a commodity, but in more traditional leagues he's the next potential monster.

Why should you trade for Barber now?!?

1) Because Julius has had 2 minor concussions thus far this season and if he has a 3rd soon he'll be forced by the league to miss time. The talk of the town on Dallas sports radio is how hard Barber runs. Because of this, Julius has tried to bang in the middle and he's suffered from it--he's a Cadillac, not a Hummer.

2) Julius is in a contract year. If he's offered a decent deal outside of Valley Ranch the Cowboys won't spend the money to match. Romo's looking like he'll cost $10 million per year and with two first round picks next year, the 'Boys will be looking to allocate those dollars on top talent at WR and CB--there's only so much cap to go around.

3) Tyson Thompson is a capable 'mix-it-up' back and will fill JJ's shoes when he leaves.

4) Marion the Barbarian will bang for AT LEAST 1,500 yards and 20 TD's in a contract year in 2008.

The only wildcard is JJ deciding to take a back-up role with back-up money in Big D, but I think he's like his brother and will catch on elsewhere with a team that needs him more than Dallas.

Bold Prediction:

New England @ Dallas in Week 6: New England 27, Dallas 31

Lots of talk right now about using the Cleveland pick on Darren McFadden. I am hoping they don't even though I truly believe McFadden will be a beast. My hope is that they do the following:

Re-Sign Barber (I believe he is a RFA).

Draft a RB in the 2nd or 3rd round to compliment Barber.

Use the 2 first rounders on two of the following positions (OT, CB, WR). I want Jake Long (OT) from Michigan.

Should be able to trade this pick then. I don't think they should waste it's tremendously huge value. That value is minimized now in September but in April....geesh it's worth alot. Push it off a year for a 2009 #1 from a lesser team, wrestle away a highly covetted DE or T with way too big a contract etc. I think it's real important they capitalize on that pick.ETA I agree with ya, Barber seems like they're more than fine at RB so do something else with it.

I traded Barber before the season started. I'm starting to regret the move a little bit obviously, but I don't trust Dallas. Barber should have been named the starter going into the season based on what he did last year, and at the same time there is all the McFadden talk. Reminds me a whole lot of Jerious Norwood. The guy has showed enough on the field to get his playing time and potentially become featured within the next year, but it seems like the coaching staff doesn't want to commit.

As good as Marion Barber is playing this year, there are just some weeks where he puts up that 3 piont performance and just screws you. And I couldn't deal with that. If I can't trust the guy next week, how can I trust him for next year and over the course of his career. He is not a slamdunk to start somewhere next year like Turner is.

Please please please use another term. BTW, the Pats aren't giving up 31 points. NEP 41, DAL 20

Anyone with a set of eyes and an IQ over 14 knows that Barber is by far the better back. Why he isn't getting 65% of touches like other workhorses is beyond me.

If you want a car analogy for Jones, I'd go with a Honda Civic. Generally reliable, generally efficient, has a little bit of zip...and the moment you sit it next to a better vehicle, everyone forgets the Civic is even there. As for Barber = Hummer, I couldn't disagree more. Sure, he runs well up the gut but he also has very underrated speed. I'd go with a LandRover Sport for Barber.

they have not played dallas yet either

nothing to add, other than i like the nickname...have i been living under a rock, or is this new?

:underrock:

Terrell Owens has been calling him that this season.

So far as Jones is concerned... I feel Dallas will re-sign him if he's cheap. I can't imagine anybody knocking on his door to give him big bucks when he's underachieved the past 4 seasons. I believe Tyson Thompson will step in and fill the Jones role in the offense and that Barber will remain in the role he's in if Jones departs Dallas. I also feel like Dallas will look for value in the 3rd/4th round in the 08 draft.
