Mark Buerhle (1 Viewer)

Only 18 in modern MLB history, I thought it was in the low 20s. I remember all in my lifetime except the Browning one. The Barker one is the only one I ever watched live.

Watched the Unit one live as it was on TBS vs the Braves and I was facing Johnson that week in my fantasy league.

I attended David Cone's Perfect Game. One of the best days of my life. Still have the ticket, would love to have him sign it.

I called that sucker after the third inning:

proof

Buehrle is going to throw a no-hitter today. Book it, done.about 2 hours ago from TwitterFox
;) nice!
Pretty much a perfect storm. The Rays are slumping on offense, they suck against lefties, they suck in day games and they suck against Buehrle. If this game were played at night, a month from now, against a righty, I bet this wouldn't have happened. :goodposting:

Your right...Buehrle would probably walk the first guy he faced if he had to throw righty

Does this make Mark Buerhle the first pitcher in baseball history to have 2 complete 9 inning games of facing the minimum 27 batters?

:goodposting: at giving yourself a good posting in the same post.

After watching the 27 out replay on MLB.com, I'm having Hawk Harrelson overload. I think he's moved to #1 on my baseball face-punch list. Jesus...

Not sure, but that is actually 3 games. Faced 27 batters July 21, 2004 in a 2-hitter (2 double play balls).Buerhle
He is the first to have done it since 1954 but prior to that I'd guess Addie Joss and Cy Young both did it. Box scores aren't always available prior to '54, and they certainly aren't complete going back into the early part of the 20th century. Joss threw 1 no hitter, a perfect game, and several 1 hitters. Young threw 3 no hitters and several 1 and 2 hitters and he pitched a lot more innings than anyone in the conversation. I'd guess Young faced the minimum amount of hitters more than 3 times, maybe double that. He had 76 career shutouts. I'm not sure if anyone could produce the evidence to support that though, if someone could I'd love to see it.

Wise's catch has to be considered one of the greatest catches ever right? He knew the gravity of the situation and he brought that ball back.

Since there have been less that 20 perfect games in modern baseball I think it is safe to say that this will not happen to the Rays again in a month during a night game against a righty. :loco:

Sports radio here in Chi-Town have declared Buerhle as the best pitcher this decade, and a sure thing HOFer

That is some serious homer talk.
maybe not the best but by far one of the most consistent pitchers in baseball these days. It is a pleasure to attend a game and watch him pitch just because he keeps the game moving. If he stays healthy and pitches until 40 he should eclipse 250 wins on top of his current credentials I see no reason why he isn't a future HOF'er. The best thing he has going for him is that he is very approachable to the media and that will probably lure quite a few votes his way.
