On this date in 1998...

Hard to believe that was 8 years ago...

Any chance Ryan Howard can hit 20 more before the end of the season?

I know the answer, but I can dream can't I?

Very nice moment after he hugged his son and went over to the stands to embrace Maris' relatives. I'll always remember that.

Agreed... The stuff with Sammy was a little stupid, but that was a nice moment...That and missing first base and Mark Grace probably yelling at him to tell him to go back...

Yeah, the stuff with Sammy was a bit cheesy with the kiss/touch the heart thing, but it was definitely a great moment in baseball history. Very appropriate that it was the Cubs/Cards playing. As for Grace, he was classy as always shaking McGwire's hand and patting him on the behind as he circled first.

I'm sure the Maris family remembers their encounter with a cheater quite fondly too.
At least McGwire isn't half the human hemorrhoid that Bonds is. I don't think the Maris family would have really enjoyed hugging that jackoff.

So if Ryan Howard gets to 62 are you all the group that believes he is the single season HR record holder and not Bonds? How do you know he isnt juicing? How do you know ANY MLB players arent juicing. The game is what it is and to discount McGwire is basically discounting the whole game of baseball.

Mark McGwire hit 49 Hrs as a rookie (Rookie record I believe, if it still stands) as a skinny runt. He was always going to challenge the record had he played a full season. He admitted to using Andro which wasnt illegal and broke the record and SAVED baseball. Whether you like baseball or not, he saved it.

Barry Bonds was a skinny run who could barely hit the ball out of the infield in his first 3 years. Totally different story then Mac. Same with Sammy.

So flame away, point out my argument flaws, but dont jump on board with the Ryan Howard is the HR king at 62 and not McGwire and Bonds.

This is pretty :goodposting: .McGwire's always been a bopper even when he was a smaller guy. And his use of Andro doesn't hurt him in my eyes since it was legal and he played by the rules.Whoever is the next to hit 71 homers will be my home run champion.

:goodposting: However I will have to see Howard hit 74... Like him or not, steroids or not, asterisk or not, and I know it isn't a popular opinion, but Bonds is the homerun single season record holder...

Baseball has been saved several times. Wasnt Cal Ripken's streak credited with saving baseball as well? Somethin fundamentally wrong when a sport needs to be saved.
