I agree that the Gruden interview isn't everything, but geez, the kid sure didn't give anyone much to feel good about either, did he?

I mean, he couldn't call out even one complex play when asked? Not one? Couldn't even kinda make something up a little bit for Coach? Maybe he knows a lot more than he's letting on, but what he displayed with Gruden...man, I'd bet that half the guys on this board could have come up with those same sandlot/elementary answers. Madden players could have given better answers and shown a deeper understanding of the QB position.

I don't have any problem with the kid. I hope he has a great career, no hate on my part. I was just surprised.

I'm not saying he can't play. I think most guys can play when in the right situation. But I don't see how anyone can have any confidence that he can pick up an NFL offense, at this point. He evidently hasn't even come close to playing an NFL style offense and nothing I've heard him say in public has been a confidence builder. I'd be very worried if I was a Panthers fan.

Grid is only 2/3 right, sort of.

The NFL has set forth a contingency plan to miss the first 3 weeks of the season. All the teams that are scheduled to play each other in week 3 all have the same bye weeks. If the first 3 weeks are missed, the NFL would just start with week 4. The week 3 games would be played during the scheduled bye weeks, and the first 2 weeks would be moved to the end of the season. Then the Super Bowl would be moved back one week, and the week off between the conference championship games would be eliminated.

:football:

Here's a dumb question. If they KNOW that the two sides won't be able to come together in time to save the season, and they know this in April, then how do they know they will finalize whatever deal is being worked on with enough time to even only delay the season two weeks.

No one, not even the players or owners, know when a negotiation will end. Not doubting your elite source, just doubting their confidence in relying on any source, since any deal nees to be run by/approved by 32 player reps/team, the union boss, and 32 diffrent owners and likely king Goddell as well.
I bet Jesus knows!
Who is that? Godell's gardener?

He can talk all he wants about mocking my "elite" source, but what else am I to say?I happen to have a contact within ESPN that is pretty high on the food chain. He has access to confidential info higher than him.I am very good personal friends with one of the doctors on the Chicago Bears training staff.I was just staying ahead of the curve.
Wow. You're more of a mess than I originally thought. :lmao:
This is awesome.Grid, if I buy dinner for you and the man who re-taped Cedric Benson's ankle one time, will you divulge more secrets? My fantasy season depends on your answer...

I have an elite source within ESPN's advertising and marketing department and there is good news and bad news. The good news is that the 2011 NFL season will be played in full. The bad news is that there will be a 2 week delay. So the entire season will be pushed back 2 weeks. Amazing that these 2 sides, won't come to an agreement in time for an uninterrupted season.

I think I saw this thread when it first came out and ignored it. But now that I've read it, I'm going to do a little guessing at what happened that might have led to this prediction.

The NFL did their schedule such that all teams that play week 3 also share a bye week. This would allow the NFL to eliminate bye weeks and play the week 3 games on those weeks instead, and free up week 3 as a makeup week.

There is also a week between the conference championship and the Super Bowl that could be used to make up a week of missed games.

That describes a two week contingency plan that the NFL built into their schedule that would allow them to make up two weeks worth of games. Did ESPN know about this? Yes, they definitely did. Adam Schefter was reporting this around the same time frame as the OP's post.

If you ask me, that is probably what is behind the information from the OP's source if there was one. It's entirely possibly some people took "the NFL can make up 2 games" and then exaggerated or made unwarranted leaps to "the NFL knows they will miss 2 weeks".

I'll also add, it actually turned out to be a three week cushion, as they booked hotels in Indy for the week after the Super Bowl as well, so they could have pushed the playoffs back a week and made up a 3rd game. It's possible whoever heard about this all and embellished it didn't know that part though.

From what I hear, this is not a contingency plan.

OK fine. We'll see. They are all making plans with their advertisers/sponsors and marketing for the season, through the SB, to be pushed back 2 weeks. Believe it or not is fine with me. Like I said. Mark the post.
We marked it bud looks like your source turned out to be as Complete and accurate as most of your observations :excited: :excited: :excited: :hophead: :hophead: :hophead: :hophead: :hophead:

Maybe Greg is the elite source. GM has been bumping around here, but has yet to offer an apology for posting such an erroneous tip. He really had us all so concerned.

Is there a bigger jinx on this board than, "mark it down"?

It's awesome. I always love when these get bumped, never remember to do it myself.

Figured you were joking at first. If not... this is a new account. My old account, GregR, had a few more than 20 posts I assure you. ;)

Marking this post. Season will start on time. I will be right.
I dominate. :pickle:
You have elite sources in the ESPN accounting department?
No but I do have common sense. Bad economy + sport at it's all-time high in popularity. Guys that can't pay their bills if the have no income. These guys were not going to shoot themselves in the head.
Wait. You mean this isn't schtick?
