Maroney = Bust? (1 Viewer)

There was no justification for Maroney being a top 10-12 RB. You shouldn't have drafted him that high.
I agree with this. In my case, I'm in a 3-man keeper league. I drafted Maroney in the mid rounds last year, and spending a keeper spot on this guy was really my best move. All the elite backs were locked up. I protected no-one else.

I still believe that Maroney is one of the few running backs who has the ability to be the #1 overall running back. He's one of the least likely, and it's not looking good after one week, but there's plenty of time left in the season, and in this offense, he should get opportunities that Thomas Jones and Edgerrin James simply won't get. That alone makes him valuable. I said before the game and throughout the game that he would get 15-20 touches on Sunday, and that's exactly what he got, so I'm not disappointed on that angle, either. Remember that he was hurt for most of the offseason and didn't start participating fully in practice until late in the preseason. Like Portis, he may need a week or two to get his legs under him. But like Portis, I think he may be ready to break out.

Any maroney owners worried about him splitting with Morris,faulk and the other guy( forgot his name) man, i'm really down on this guy!
No, he's not a bust, because everyone (who pays attention) knew this would be the case.

No justification? Are you paying attention at all? -The guy is on a championship caliber team with an already stout offense (with a revamped set of receivers, nonetheless)-they figure to be playing ahead in the 2nd half (which equates to running the ball)-As a rookie he rushes 175 times for 750 yds with 22 receptions 200 rec. yds and 7 total TD's. -His teammate Corey Dillon (who isn't there anymore BTW) rushed 199 times for 800+ yds and 13, yes, 13 TD's in 2006-There was no apparent RB on the roster that would cut into his time (I don't think Morris will pose a threat IMO)So Teamroc, tell us why there is no justification. If you make a blind statement on the board back it up!PS After doing a little research, I'm surprised he wasn't ranked higher
I pretty much think he was ranked pretty close to where he should have been. He hasn't shown that he can be an every down, 350 carry back yet and he really wasn't their goal line back last year. So those that took him did so on faith that he would evolve into that (and let's not forget the shoulder issues).I still do not think that the angle of Maroney + Dillon last year could equal Maroney this year as that one would require him to have 400+ touches.I somewhat agree that there is not a single guy that will get the ball as much as Dillon did, but I think there are several guys that they will off load some carries to and they will pass more (meaning fewer rushing attempts all around).That's why I think Maroney really has an upside of the Top 8 or Top 10 but not a lot more than that. I know in theory he could get 15-20 TD but I just don't think that that is/was realistic. I don't see him getting the workload of the uber stud backs, nor do I see him putting up elite ypc numbers or crazy TD numbers either. He's also likely not going to see passes like a Westbrook, so that's another reason to temper some enthusiasm. Good player on a great team should equal good production. But I don't see him going off for 200 yards rushing in a game. (He's had only one 100 yard rushing game in his young career.)
I realize that LM won't equal the combined stats of himself and dillon but give him 50% of Dillons numbers and he's 1200 yds and 13 TD's. I was really trying to point out that he was/still is an easily justified pick in the 10-12 RB range. I took him 13th overall in a redraft. The next 5 RB's taken were Willis, Edge, T. Jones, A. Peterson and Jones-Drew. If the draft were today I think I would (as would most but a few peterson lovers) still go with Maroney.

:thumbup: Yeah Maroney doesn't appear to be the real deal. I think he was a lot of hype.I can see him getting flushed down the :lmao: in a couple of weeks.

maroney is just fine when he is on the field. The problem is the coaching...not Maroney!

Maroney order.I think Morris splits carries with him all year.watching the game I noticed that Morris was given entire series more than once. In fact, it was Maroney who came back in for the garbage time. I'm hoping that the are breaking him in slowly because he missed a bunch of time in the pre-season.If he has a huge game I'm going o look to move him. He isn't getting the carries inside the 5 for sure, and will not live up to his ADP unless he does.
IMO, Morris was given entire series because Maroney was coming off shoulder surgery and perhaps wasn't in 100% game shape. I honesty think BB was being cautious, knowing fully well that the nfl season is a long one and why risk having your starting RB get gassed and potentially pull something as a result of pushing too hard in the first game without being in game shape.Gibbs did the same thing with Portis. Betts and Portis split carries as well. Heck, look at S-Jax, he didn't play much in the preseason, MAYBE he wasn't in great shape or used to folks stripping the ball from him in preseason and fumbled twice week 1. Coincidence? Maybe.I think it is smart coaching. Some other poster put it well, these caoches do not care about fantasy football leagues. They are trying to gets wins for their NFL team - period.

Once again, the patented week 1 panic alarms on the footballguys forums. Go ahead, sell low while you still can. Usually the 1st week is a good indicator of what every player will do over the course of a season.

Remember when LT was going to split carries with Michael Turner? Yeah.

Maroney coming off an injury...check. Morris getting extra carries to save Maroney...check. Evans garbage time TD...check. Patriots taking advantage of a weak defense against the pass...check. Yep, Maroney is a bust, I'd be surprised if he gets anymore carries this year. Trade him now..lol
