I would draft him late and hope he can play inspired football in a contract year.I drafted him late, but wouldn't be suprised if I drop him after a few weeks. If he plays motivated this year (isn't a contract year?), then he could be the steal of the draft. But his whole pro career has been a letdown, IMO.
Maroney is the Man. He will be the guy in NE. Maroney is very fast.Mohawk said:What are your thoughts on L. Maroney. Belichik is so difficult to gauge. After two preseason games--Do you think Maroney will be the lead NE back or not?
Ha! David Boston Reference. I agree with the guessing. NE backfield is a barren wasteland with the occasional mirage of an oasis.I am done dealing with this headache. This guy is almost starting to have as many lives on this board as David Boston. I still remember last year when NE played Tampa last year and every RB was hurt except for Maroney. Should've been a perfect game for him to put up great stats as a bye week fill in. Instead, the Pats threw a ton and Maroney did hardly anything. Between trying to figure out which RB will be favored in a given week, his injury history, and the fact that NE is clearly a pass first team, I just have no faith that when I plug him into a lineup that he will produce. Since that's the case, I would rather have another RB on my roster. Leave the weekly guessing to someone else.
This.At some point with his main competition being 33 and 34 year olds Maroney will be called upon. Last season from Weeks 6-15 he had 157 carries 636 yards and 9TDs. Nice for a 4th RB to use for injury or bye week fill ins. But like DY points out injuries on the NE RB depth chart are a must for this type of production to occur.
He equates to velocity.Maroney is very fast.
It's not like Maroney has been a pillar of good health.This.At some point with his main competition being 33 and 34 year olds Maroney will be called upon. If you understand he can be a very valuable late season guy for your teams push in the post season he is worth the flier. Also I traded a late 2nd round rookie pick for him this season for that exact reason (contending team). Depth late in the season.
As long as you have the right expectations and don't pay a decent price you won't be dissapointed. No way Morris or Taylor stay healthy. They are brittle and old. Maroney should be ok.
Yeah I agree but I think he has the best chance of staying healthy just based on age. Hey i am not one who ever predicts injuries but Taylor is just really old and Morris has never been a healthy back. Maroney is going into the prime of his career right now and if he wants any shot at a new contact with or without the Pats no small nicks or sprains will keep him out. It would have to be something major. Taylor and Morris will not recover week to week like they did just a few short years ago. So Maroney has the age factor on his side in that regard and should again be fresh for a second half run once the age and injuries set in for the the other 2 backs. It's not like Maroney has been a pillar of good health.This.At some point with his main competition being 33 and 34 year olds Maroney will be called upon. IMO, nothing has changed in NE. Maroney has always been the youngest and most talented back on the roster, yet in his 5th season is in the same situation all over again. The other backs over the years have always been on the older side (Dillon, Jordan, Faulk, Taylor, Morris) and Maroney has always had the advantage of being younger, yet he has never evolved into a regular starter. Unfortunately for Maroney, he's always been less effective than the other older guys. He hardly ever catches a pass and has frequently come out at the goal line. So he pretty much will have to survive on 10-15 carries in the middle of the field on days they have a run based scheme. So very minimal reception and TD opportunities if the other guys are suited up.Yeah I agree but I think he has the best chance of staying healthy just based on age. I think the "whatever reason" is that he's been injured, lazy, ineffective, and/or nonchalant for pretty much his entire career, or at least since Corey Dillon left town.Or are we still pretending that New England intentionally spent a 1st round pick for a back who would become part of a RBBC?For whatever reason, the Pats have not felt inclined to make him a bell cow back with others getting a few carries here and there.
not 1 snapDid he even play in the last game?
And yet his stats were better than Kareem Huggins.Maybe some one should start a Lo-Mo choo-choo train.not 1 snapDid he even play in the last game?
