I don't think it would matter with that line and Martz calling 584 pass plays a game. He'd get Peyton freaking Manning killed in that offense. Obviously, neither Cutler nor Orton are a Peyton Manning, but I think you all catch my drift.Tell Denver you were mistaken and you want Orton back?
I'm thinking that a young Orlando Pace may have been a pretty big piece of the Greatest Show On Turf.the OL is horrible - they knew what they were getting with Martz - you can't run his system without at least a decent OL - give him a better OL and you will get better results . . . Martz is taking a lot of grief and people in here are passing off his success as purely talent based - Holt was a rookie and Warner was a nobody before 1999 - would you ever have heard of Warner if not for Martz??? faulk was great in Indy but he didnt reach HOF status until his great years in STL . . .with that being said, Nartz should play a conventional style of offense until next year - his WRs are average (at best) . . . in the offseason they should retool the OL and sign a legit #1 WR . . .

I agree with the first part, but not the second part. The CHI WRs are the least of their problems. The O-Line is the biggest issue, and Cutler's decision-making is a close #2.the OL is horrible - they knew what they were getting with Martz - you can't run his system without at least a decent OL - give him a better OL and you will get better results . . . The Wrs are a HUGE issue. They are crap. Earl Bennett is a good possesion guy. Hester hasn't developed at all. Johnny knox stops routes multiple times every game. DA just isn't that good. O-LINE is the biggest worry, but the WRs are 2nd. That group is bad. Also, I agree with the OP. I was against Martz from the beginning. You're putting the cart before the horse there. Cutler's getting blitzed because:1) The Martz system protects like a sieve andWhat has Martz done since St. Louis with all that talent? Which brings me to the problem with Cutler's Bears the last two seasons, he has no one to throw the ball to. Devin Hester is not an outside receiver. Cutler is getting blitzed like crazy because no receiver can win one on one. It is going to continue all year. Olsen might as well stay in and block, cause they ain't throwing to him. The defense will keep games close but please Martz, run the ball. They could win if they went run-run-run punt more than Cutler running for his life and throwing to these guys. Play like Parcells Giants not Vermiels Rams.
Also factor in when his hot read doesn't recognize that he's hot and isn't running the right pattern or looking for the ball, which also happens with this bunch. Cutler has ample reason not to trust his receivers, they are often running the wrong routes, not finishing cuts (at least 2 of the ints this week you can hang on Knox for giving up on his route an letting the DB step inside him, a serious no-no), and just not going to fight for the ball. That doesn't excuse Cutler, but it is certainly mitigating. Lets put it this way- the wrong plays are being called behind the wrong line throwing to the wrong playmakers, giving them the ball in the wrong ways, and utilizing a very mobile but flustered quarterback in entirely the wrong ways. The strengths of this offense are an QB with a big arm and great feet that can throw on the move, RBs that are great around the edge and catching passes out of the backfield, and receivers that are very good if they can get the ball in space and make plays after they catch it. Martz takes advantage of literally none of those things, and the few times he does he uses them as set ups to get back to what he really wants to do and promptly forgets what works. Its criminal. Its literally hard to think of an atmosphere less conducive to the outdated scheme he wants to run.I look at Martz like this- he's sitting down at a chess board while the defensive coordinator across from him is picking up the board and smashing it over his head. You don't NEED to scheme to beat the Bears offense, you can just beat them physically because their weaknesses in this offense are so glaring. Martz always thinks he's on the verge of outsmarting the other team, but the other team isn't bothering trying to out-think him! Why bother? You know whats coming, and you know you can get to their QB before he can execute it. So sit back on those long patterns and let your d-line and a blitzer or two blow the play up. You can run a vanilla defense every series and the Bears will make themselves look bad. And Martz WILL NOT CHANGE. There is no possibility of that.To that end, I heard Jaws say the other day (before this past weekend's games) that 8 - count 'em, 8 - of the sacks the Bears have given up this year were when the pass rusher made it to the QB without even being touched. That is just terrible for that to happen that many times. Jaws did point out that many came as a result of Culter holding on to the ball too long, too (often times, by not getting to the ball to his hot read), so there is plenty of blame to go around, but when you have a line that is so bad in pass protection that it is letting up that many sacks where the pass rusher is not even touched, you might want to think about adjusting how you call games. But not Martz. He will keep calling pass, pass, pass, and the Bears offense will continue to struggle mightily as a result.
Is there a petition giong around? Whwere do I sign?I think the first step in fixing the O-line would be to change the play calling. Although not by much, I think the Bears run block better than they pass block. At least they are trying to move forward. The Bears need to run more to be more effective.Well-said, mbuehner. There are just many things going wrong with the Bears offense to expect any kind of drastic turnaround. Really, the decision to bring in Martz was a terrible one. They need to fix that offensive line, first and foremost. And Cutler needs a QB coach, one who will preach to him playing smart and being safe with the ball. Cutler obviously has that aggressive "I will just fling it all over the yard" attitude and when you combine that with a play-caller like Martz, who is always throwing caution to the wind, it spells disaster.
BS. It's an easy fix:1. Fire MartzSweatpants said:There is absolutely no reason to believe anything will change for the rest of the season.
Martz has shown he refuses to adapt or change the offense at all, regardless of what has happened. The Oline is pathetic. The qb won't quite throwing INT's. The WR's won't fight for the football and cut off routes routinely. The RB's won't fight for the tough yards when there isn't much there(see the multiple times we haven't gotten in on 1st and 1 on the goalline). The TE's are all but worthless. Olsen has caught 1 ball in 3 games. Have any of the other TE's even caught one pass all season ? I haven't heard one mentioned all year, except when they have miss blocks, which is often. Come to think of it, I can't think of a single positive thing on offense. There's no way this can be fixed during the second half of the season. There's too much wrong and the offensive coordinator is too damn ignorant to even try. This team is doomed.![]()

2. Promote RB coach to OC or go without one
3. Hold open tryouts for o-line (yes I'm serious, I would like to see if there is anyone out there who can do better)
4. After open tryouts fail (see I'm realistic) go ahead and design your offense around either 3TE or a 2TE+Fullback formation with one WR. DA is the one WR.
5. Run an offense that focuses on short passes to Aromashadu (only real WR on team) and the RB and the TEs. Quick screen passes with the occasional deep ball just to keep defenses from putting 11 in the box. That and running the ball, with both RBs and Cutler.
6. Hester returns all punts and kicks, vastly improving both our receiving and special teams
7. Rely on the defense and special teams to keep scores low and give this offense a chance.
7 steps that could be done in a week or two. 7 steps that would at least give us a fair chance to win and keep our QB alive.
I'm sorry, I know you're pulling stats and all to back this up but there is no way you can watch the games and make this statement. The Martz system requires QBs to hold the ball longer and involves deeper drops that our line simply can't handle. Also, you must not be paying attention to what is actually happening in the running game during games, because before Cutler threw his 4th INT that lost the game for us, we had run for three first downs in a row. Forte averaged 4.1 in that game and CT had a 6.7 ypc average.hello mcfly
Cutler's interception rate is way down this year
Forte is not a legitmate RB
Cutler has been sacked 19 times in 6 games which is about 3 per game, including the 9 sack debacle agaianst the G-men, whose D is looking awesome right now.
The sky is not falling and the system is not waht is killing this offense right now.
27 times in 5.5 games, which is 4.9 times per game. Not sure why so many people have this wrong. Like I said, this is nearly on pace for the all times sacked in a season and would be exceeding it if Cutler didn't miss a game and a half.hello mcflyCutler's interception rate is way down this yearForte is not a legitmate RBCutler has been sacked 19 times in 6 games which is about 3 per game,

Warner? Cerebral?Looking back on all of it now, I feel that Kurt Warner may be the biggest reason why Mike Martz is regarded as some kind of offensive genius. Kurt Warner trusted the system, and executed it to perfection… and Martz seems to get all the credit for that success.I think it takes a cerebral, and very disciplined QB to play “within” Martz’s system…

I like this idea...martz has really adapted to what he has.I was wrong. They got there chit together. Can we still fire Angelo and take away any personel decisions Lovie has? Keep Lovie on the football field and everything is great.
