Marvel Cinematic Universe - Fantastic Four - No Homework Required (3 Viewers)

Finally caught Brave New World on Disney +.

The bar is REALLY low right now, so I guess I could say I was entertained. I liked the throwbacks to the Norton Hulk movie.

But overall it was mostly a mess. Maybe thunderbolts is better but it's crazy how badly marvel lost their fastball.

Thunderbolts is much better than Brave New World.
This.

I'd give Brave New World 4/10 and Thunderbolts 9/10.

Saw Brave New World last night. It wasn't bad. It wasn't great. The problem with it wasn't Anthony Mackie or Sam Wilson as Captain America. I think they did a good job of having Wilson continually question his ability as Cap; particularly when compared to Steve Rogers. Eventually, the character will have to move beyond that.....but showcasing it is fine and will eventually show growth of character.

Since Brave New World relied on so much Hulk lore...they really should have made this a Hulk/Cap team up ala Thor: Ragnarok. Putting Hulk in it would have upped the wow factor.

Decided to watch Brave New World. Meh sums it up. Took me 3 days to watch it. Figured if I started it, might as well finish it. Story was just mediocre and I don’t care for Sam Wilson’s character.

Nice to hear the positive vibes on Thunderbolts.

Somebody watch Ironheart and report back.
I watched the first three yesterday. They weren't bad. Slow start to establish some character background, but decent pacing. The show didn't feel like it was dragging along. A couple of good (minor) twists through each episode. I liked them, and I think they did the character of Riri and Ironheart well. Hood looks good and is starting to just show why he's capable of becoming a good MCU villian. I'd give it a B. Not the greatest MCU D+ show, but definitely nowhere near the worst.

Ok so far. The good news is they finally shot the lock off the wallet and decided to focus a super hero show around super heroes doing super hero things. The special effects are there imo. There are still plenty of Batman-esque "BAM!" "POW!" "CRACK!" fistfights but they are in between the cool iron suit flying around and shooting stuff up shots, not in place of them like in a lot of these D+ Marvel shows.

The quality of the plot remains to be seen imo.

The acting is solid.

I find Anthony Mackie fine as a supporting character but lacking charisma as a lead. He's just sort of there. I just don't buy into it at all.
I think he was the best part of elevation but that isn’t saying much. Falcon and the winter soldier was one of the best D+ shows so far imo and it’s my 22yo son’s favorite of all of them.
Has he been the lead in anything else?

I found Falcon and WInter Soldier to be tedious. All the dumb fishing boat stuff. It's a boat. Grow up.

But it wasn't just about a boat...it was about their legacy. Not the Falcon's legacy. He had to learn about himself in order to grow into that Captain America persona. If you can't stand up for your own legacy, how're you going to stand up there and convince people you're Captain America?

If your legacy is a rotting money sink, it's not much of a legacy. Family should be the legacy. Those people seemed pretty whiny to me. But THE BOAT! Oh, no.

The family is the legacy. The boat just represented that. It seems normal for people to have a connection to something that reminds them of their family. Or maybe I just liked the sister

I agree. But huge stressing money pit is a weird choice.

Somebody watch Ironheart and report back.
We've watched the first three episodes. The rest come out next week, I think. I am unsure. Mr R seems to like them. Will report back.
All done. We have mixed reviews. We had a problem with some logic in it. Also, the characters need more Batman levels of caution. They seem to tr-la-la through everything, even after events that should suggest caution. I also really don't much like the main character. The acting seemed pretty good, as did the special effects.

You should probably watch it, since it likely matters for events moving forward.

It occurred to me that I would be remiss in not pointing out that none of the threads in Ironheart seemed to wrap up. That show had no ending.

Two into Ironheart. It's just one of those ones that doesn't quite resonate with me on a personal level; Ironheart wasn't around when I was reading comics so I don't have that connection. I'm also not young or hip, so I don't have that connection. It makes you feel "old". The Bear makes me feel that way....for real for real. All that being said, Ironheart is entertaining . I like the main character/actress more than I thought I would (she just seemed so angry and unapproachable in the trailers).

Kid and I are probably going this weekend as well. Heard mostly good things so I'm excited. Been trying to skip more recent trailers and first look stuff, but caught one of them that concerns me

Spoiler tags in case others are trying to skip trailers.
The comment from Reed about Galactus wanting their kid in exchange for the earth
Not sure why it bothers me but it didn't feel right for what we've seen in the rest of the trailers.

i loved ironheart and wish that that bad guy in that one was the main bad guy in the movies he was awesome and interestiguing to me at least i am trying to not say his name for spoilers by the way take that to the bank brohans

i think upon reading this thread that i am just sort of made to like stuff and enjoy it and a lot of you official comic book guys are not i mean brohans just sit back and enjoy the ride let the music and sounds and special effects make your day and just have a good time life is too short to pick everything apart take that to the bank brohans

I'm with you, swcer.

Being a critic of everything has to be exhausting.

This is incorrect.

Pretty sure that’s straight outta the comics

It’s from way after I stopped reading comics but their son, Franklin, is supposed to become one of the most powerful people in the MCU.

Yeah I am sure its out of the comics, but like Doc Oc, probably after I stopped reading them. And I know the kid is powerful, just didn't know his specific connection to Galactus.

He's an Omega-level reality manipulation mutant and has powers that even extend to creating alternate universes. A lot of really powerful characters including Onslaught and the Celestials have tried to take him for his abilities.

Ive been reading comics for almost 30 years and ive never heard of this ronan
He's a player whenever the Avengers or X-Men have a mission in space - he was actually a major player in last year's Infinity crossover event.

There have been three F4 movies before this one. So finally the 4th one....is fantastic?

Planning on seeing it tomorrow. My son works tonight and he asked me to wait for him to watch it. Trying to duck/hide from spoilers and leaks for the next 24 hrs.

Loved it, LOVED IT. I wish they would just leave them in this gorgeous retro-future universe but of course they’re going to blend them into the next two Avengers movies. Which is fine if they return them to this place. Hope we see more movies out of this earth, they could just reset the entire MCU there as far as I’m concerned.

Just got back from the movie with my daughter. We both very much enjoyed it. If we spread the MCU into 4 tiers of quality, we would have placed high up in Tier 2. Great looking movie for sure.

The only tiny complaint I had was that you should never have an actress of the quality of Julia Garner and give her so little to do.

Kid and I enjoyed FF. She liked Thunderbolts* better but I think I liked this. Love me some Vanessa Kirby.

I thought the actors worked well together. In the 2005 version I never felt there was any chemistry between Alba and Gruffold. This group worked for me. I loved the Surfer scenes. I thought the action surrounding her was excellent. Slightly disappointed in Galactus, but much better than the cloud in Rise of the Silver Surfer. I do expect we will see them both again at some point.

Loved the easter egg of the empty chair with the "Latveria" name plate on it. Also the mid credit scene setting up what's next was nicely done. So much tension
