It has long been tradition in Masters practice rounds for players to drop down a ball and skip one across the pond at the par-3 16th hole.

I didn't know that.

i was there for wednesday practice round a few years ago (when garcia won) and witnessed patrick reed almost do the same thing. rolled right by the hole after the skips

I didn't know they let that many people in for the practice rounds.  The stands were packed, or is that really where everyone just heads for the show?

More the latter. It's fun to see them try to skip it across the water. We were probably there for two hours before that happened.
