Matsuzaka's First Game (1 Viewer)

Wow. Comes back in the top of the seventh with 96 pitches, and gets the four pitch strikeout to start the inning. Nine Ks.
They came in saying they had a pitch limit in mind for hime today. What do you suppose that is?
I would think that he's done now.
This guy's arm hasn't been ####ified like the average MLB pitcher's arm has. I'd like to see him out there for one more, you're probably right that he's done though.

Can he win the ROY? I remember hearing some talk regarding not giving ROY to pro players coming over from other countries.

But I bet dollars to donuts that the Masters will lead off Sportscenter tonight, followed by Red Sox highlights, which makes no sense to me.
What should be the the #2 story of SportsCenter, if not Dice K's MLB debut?
San Antonio vs. Phoenix....Billy Donovan staying at Florida...DM's debut should be ahead of the Frozen Four though, I'll grant that. Probably ahead of the final NHL weekend as well.
:lmao: Are you serious??
The battle for the #2 seed in the NBA playoffs....a coach turning down Kentucky AND 4 million a year to not stay at a football school.....the better question is are YOU serious? Or do you honestly think a #3 pitcher on a 3rd place team making his debut is a bigger story?

It's crazy that Golf is featured on a show called "Sports Center"

Didn't we see it the other night when Barry Zito played. And when A-Rod played (although that's 200 million). And when Manny played. And when Carlos Lee played. Kevin Brown too a few years ago, right? So on and so forth.I don't see what the big deal is.
Just a lot of hype around the first BIG Japanese import since Ichiro. Given Ichiro's success it is now assumed that some japanese players can make the transition so there are now higher expectations for Matsuzaka. Given all the media hype and how big this is in Japan (the guy is tailed constantly by a swarm of japanese media) it really is one of the bigger stories in MLB globally in the last few years.ZLuckily the kid has shown tendencies to be a big game pitcher in the past, as this game will be a complete circus and I'm dreading the backlash from the mouth breathers if he doesn't have a dominant performance.
Hiedki Matsui down?
Matsui is the man.. and he was a big to-do.... but no way near the scale of Matsuzaka IMHOCourse, I could be wrong. Matsuzaka's numbers coming into the inning:7IP - 1ER - 1BB - 8K : 1.50 ERA - 1.16 WHIP
No, I was saying DiceK was the first BIG Japanese import since Matsui not Ichiro

 at you hanging your hat on the bolded part. Who gives a #### where he sits in the order of the rotation and where the Sox finished last year?

Right, which is why Ichiro didn't win it. :blackdot:
Right...I thought he was the player that sparked the debate...anything ever come from that?
There was backlash against Matsui a few years later when people refused to vote for him and Angel Berroa won the award. But there is no official rule.

:blackdot: DiceK is the biggest story of the YEAR for ALL OF BASEBALL! Of course his debut should be the top story on SC.

Yes I do

The guy is a NUMBER ONE pitcher in the NUMBER THREE spot for the time being, don't be a fool CD.

GotchaFor splash/hype at import time I think it has been:Dice K >>>>>>>>>> ICHIRO >> MATSUI
I can agree with that. Would you put Nomo ahead of them all or did his hype start after he started pitching well?

There was no question that Matsuzaka was coming out after a long inning like that.

I'm looking forward to (probably) seeing Papelbon's season debut in the 9th.

tough call there.. wasn't familiar enough with the nomo phenomena. If given the choice between Matsui or Ichiiro I'd take Matsui though.... big fan of the guy. Easily my favorite Yankee.

COlin tell us more about the exciting coaching changes and how the two teams that have had a playoff spot locked up since before the season started are jockeying for a seed that won't matter until the third round of the playoffs if they both win out? It's all very, very exciting.

Until the 8th, this was a helluva game. I know 99% of teh country only cares about the BOS side of the matchup, but Greinke pitched his #### off today. The bad call @ 2B on German which was followed by Brown's RBI single really was the turning point. if German scores there, it is 2-2.

Dice-K was all he was cracked up to be, but Greinke was almost as good today, and that should not be lost on anyone.

Watched this one at work, reminded me of latter-years Pedro. Dice-K isn't striking out 300 guys or anything, but Pedro in his later years with Boston was still a dominant pitcher. Matsuzaka is easily worth the money that was paid out, and I just hope Kei Igawa can put up half the wins and K's this guy will.

Greinke was awesome, and made Papi Ortiz look particularly bad several times.

I think that in America, the Dice-K and Ichiro hype trumped the Matsui hype. But over in Japan, I think Matsui is still a much bigger deal than either of those guys. He's their Babe Ruth, and I would surmise that the Japanese media that follows him around (especially that first year) rivals any player at any time in all of sports.

Enjoy 3rd place in the AL East. Someone else's money never spent so good...(And you wonder why the rest of North America thinks Boston sports fans are tools. )

Poor COlin. You sound like you're really worked up about this.

Would you like to bet something that they don't finish in third place this year?PS. You sound like the tool...not people who are excited about a guy pitching his first game in MLB and going 7 strong and striking out 10 batters. :football:

Is there such a thing as 7 weak if Len Barker isn't involved?

Perhaps. Just wait until I've had my 2nd 12 pack of the evening.
