Former Jacksonville Jaguar wide receiver Matt Jones declined a try out for the Washington Redskins and will be retiring from the NFL.

crushed former dynasty owners?

I recall a 700 yard shortened season as his last, looked like he finally was there and didn't he get caught with a beer on the beach or somesuch?

He's young enough that if he gets an offer in a year or two and decides to play, no one will fault him like Favre's unretirement. There simply aren't many jobs out there where he can get paid millions for having fun and (not the coke stuff) will he earn enough to support his lifestyle?

Jerry Jones has always sounded obsessed with Matt when he spoke. I've never seen interviews with him where he discussed anyone else and had the same reaction. For all the flack Jerry gets, it is flat out restraint that Matt is not making millions on the Cowboys sideline.

Unless he can coach, JJ doesn't need him. But he would probably be an improvement.

Didn't look as fast as his reputation when watching him in camp and in preseason. He made a few nice plays and catches, but whether it was just his long stride running style, or that he's lost a few steps, he just didn't look fast. I think it was probably a combination of the two. After seeing the 2010 version of Jones, I wondered if it may have been worth bulking up and trying the TE thing ala Ernest Wilford.

As a Razorback alum I have a soft spot for Matt Jones. Still seems to me that he had a lot of bad luck in his NFL Career. I do not discount the drug arrest, but the one liner comments are hard to take.

Jones was always aloof. He was a competitor and led the Razorbacks to somy unbelieveable come-backs. He was at his best at crunch time, but he we never a rah-rah leader. Exactly the opposite, on the sideline in the seven overtime win over Ole Miss, he never even watched when Ole Miss had the ball, but when it was the offense's turn, he was all world and led the Hogs to victory. I think that laid back attitude was a major clash with Coach Del Rio of the Jags.

I was in Arkansas yesterday and the radio guys said that last summer, he had offers from both the Titans and the Bengals, but the Bengals had a better QB and offered a little more. After he signed with the Bengals, they signed A. Bryant, drafted Shipley and then signed Terrell Owens. That's a pretty good group of WRs to add to Ocho and he failed to make the team. He would have had a much better shot as it worked out with the Titans who picked up Randy Moss.

The rumor in Arkansas was that he was planning to attempt to play pro basketball in Europe. He played some after football season at Arkansas.

Hope that whether he makes it on a team or not, he is able to do well. Big fan still of the guy who scored 77 career TDs for the Razorbacks.
