Matt Jones (1 Viewer)

I noticed him playing from the slot towards the end of the Cowboy game. And I also noticed that he was out on 2 WR sets. What's up with that?

I thought he was supposed to play Jimmy Smith's X WR position, the primary read on most of their pass plays. Did I miss something here?

Dude looks like a real weapon. Get him out there Del Rio!!!

i live in Jax and follow the Jags pretty closely and I couldnt agree more. Jones is a star waiting to happen and they just refuse to use him. He comes into the game and they hit him on 2 semi-deep throws and then he's gone.

No reason why Williams is starting over him. I could understand wilford since he's more polished. But, Jones is a playmaker. Put him in any real offense (i.e. Colts, Bengals, Cardinals,) and he a is top 10-15 WR.

Part of it is the QB situation...im not a believer in either Fat Albert or Garrard (dont call me Jarrard). But, it definitely isnt their fault that hes only out there for 20-25 plays a game.

For the record, im not even a Jags fan (from Philly originally) so this isnt a homer call.

thanks for your thoughtful, in depth, expert analysis of the situation. Really, you must be a lawyer or something cause you really know how to put together a helluva case. i'm not one of those guys that cares if you disagree with me, but at least put some effort into it. Or...just melt into the fat, lazy, unimpressive malaise that is the average joe in this country. there, did that get you fired up enough to actually respond with a real post :pokey:

no he isn't a lawyer, but probably a democrat!!!!! :boxing:

People seem to be overly caught up on who the X receiver is this year.
Makes a difference if that is the primary read on passing plays. For those who watched, did Matt Jones start? I thought he was totally healthy coming in. Is that not the case? I know he was struggling with an ankle injury earlier in the preseason. If Matt Jones is healthy and not getting PT, I am confused I guess, since it sounded like in the offseason the Jags were really high on him as their new #1 WR.

watch the game? remember this?
2-7-JAC29 (:49) B.Leftwich pass short right to M.Jones to JAX 30 for 1 yard (P.Watkins).3-6-JAC30 (:05) (Shotgun) B.Leftwich pass short right to M.Jones to JAX 39 for 9 yards (A.Henry).Fourth QuarterJacksonville Jaguars continued...1-10-JAC39 (15:00) B.Leftwich pass deep right to M.Jones to DAL 36 for 25 yards (T.Newman).1-10-DAL36 (14:17) B.Leftwich pass deep right to M.Jones to DAL 14 for 22 yards (A.Glenn).
overall, 11 targets plus 1 rush. yes, there are some packages where he isn't in, but he's not lacking for playing time or looks.

Yeah, but it seemed like that this was the only series where he was consistently targeted and in the game.I still don't know where he was at the end of the game. He definitely was only coming out in 3 WR sets on the last few series. Maybe his ankle was sore.

It appeared at times that they were using him in as kind of a tight end split out wide position that you'll see Gates or Gonzo in a lot. I think that's what you saw more than him playing the slot. I'm guessing you'll see a little bit less of that once Marcedes gets back. Also, I was checking out game book and they have him listed as a starter. He wasn't targeted the last few drives because they were running most of the time. They only threw 3 passes in the last 12 minutes of the game.
