Matt Jones (1 Viewer)

Our 6'5'' 4.2 in the 40yd dash QB out of college, converted to WR just isn't progressing. How many of you dynasty owners are still clinging on to a glimmer of hope on this guy or have made roster space and thrown him back into the pool? If you have thrown him back in, did anyone claim him on waivers? Just wondering.

I am holding. Probably a little homer in me as he was such as awesome player to watch in college and I cling to the memories of the good times.

Matt was also my father-in-law's all-time favorite and he passed away last week so I will hold him all year in his honor.

Go Hogs!

If the guy could make the active list on regularity, he might deserve a 2nd thread in a week, but...

I read today that he shaved his beard. Most relevant news on him this whole year. I posted in the other thread, but it's time to let go. He hasn't even proved to be a good red zone threat....and that's what I think his upside is now. A situational red zone guy.

this will drive someone crazy

lunching in a bar today, I couldn't hear it but saw an ESPN caption, "Matt Jones back on track?"

Anybody know what that was all about

Held him since rookie but declined to retain his services this season -- no one in the league appears to disagree with that sentiment.

I am still hanging onto him on the basis of upside ceiling; he clearly has the physical tools and he has performed well at times. He still hasn't even completed three seasons as a WR and he certainly has not been in a good situation during any of those years.

All that said I am looking at him this week as a possible drop to pick up a bye week PK. He isn't active for all the games and it is hard to hold onto a player who isn't active. I did read that he would be active this week and supposedly he shaved because of a talk he had with Del Rio. Getting along with the HC, even if he is an idiot, is a good thing.

I have him in 2 dynasty leagues, won't be dropping him until he's out of the NFL.

In smaller leagues I can see dropping him for someone, but in my leagues the best player I could get if I drop him is Arnaz Battle in one, probably a backup LB in the other. Obviously Battle is more consistent, but as my lineup is set, I can wait for Jones's upside.

I remember when people in dynasty leagues wouldn't trade him away for a first rounder in next year's draft...how quickly things change.

Well he'll be lucky to make it out of his rookie contract with a job. What is Jones's upside here? Am I missing something, he's inactive now......beaten by a career slot guy + a rooke in Broussard (was he drafted?) ....all on a run-first, second, third team. He hasn't even proved to have the hands to be a RZ monster. I see his upside about the same as Mike Williams of Oakland. Low-catch, perhaps a year or two of decent TD totals. He looks like the next Marc Boerighter. That's the best comparison I can find. People enamored with his size, but he just isn't consistent enough to get meaningful PT. At best, he's a feast or famine WR....and you can find those on the wire in any league.

So, it's just Oz and me holding on to Jones? I'll keep the faith at least till he's out of Jacksonville. I think that his nonchalant attitude totally rubs Del Rio the wrong way and he might fit better somewhere else. Contrary to what my wife says, I can be patient.

Why? Seems to me almost anywhere he goes, his value will increase. Or maybe that's the point? Trade after people start to consider him a sleeper?

I'm holding and will continue to. As long as you temper your expectations of immediate impact why not?

I just gave a 2nd round pick and Jason Campbell for him.

Campbell's my 3rd qb, point per completion league. Behind Palmer and Rivers.

I'd love to see Jones turn it around in the 2nd half, I tried and tried to get him last year, I'm sure he didn't lose the talent.

:excited: I realize you were dealing from depth, but a 2nd round pick alone was more than sufficient. Campbell looks to have a solid future in the NFL. Right now, Matt Jones looks iike he has a better future as an outdoorsman. I think his upside right now is as a redzone/goalline WR.His #'s aren't suddenly going to rise with Gray @ QB....that's assuming he even sniffs the field at WR.----------------He doesn't run good routes, his hands aren't great, and even given his size, he really hasn't capitalized in his RZ opportunities.

He was dropped in my salary cap dynasty and I just picked him up. His salary will be about $100,000 of a $42 million cap so really no risk involved for me. I figure why not take a chance at that price.

Does he have any value?

He's a FA in my 24-player, 12-team PPR league. Hasn't been touched since being waived over a month ago. If he's free to get, sure take the chance. I certainly wouldn't give anything of substance for him.

He was a project coming into the league & isn't progressing obviously sitting on the bench.

...and Matt Jones catches a TD this week out of nowhere...just to tease us into keeping him around a while longer.
I don't know if it is enough. One target a game, even if it results in a TD, is hardly consistent enough to warrant keeping a guy on roster. I do believe in the guy, but I don't believe in Jacksonville and the coaching. He won't produce until he is cut and sent somewhere more conducive.

I said it wrong. I think that until he gets away from Del Rio, he will not play enough for any value. I think that the clash is because Del Rio believes that Jones nonchalance is his actual attitude. I think that his athleticism could be used better.

Chris Mortensen traded me next year's 1st rounder and Wes Welker for him; he thought it was a small price to pay for "the next Randy Moss." :blackdot:
