I'm thinking something similar, though my pool of acceptable gambles includes a few more guys.Im on board. If a big QB doesnt slide to me and offer me value in the first 5 rounds or so. My current plans is...Grab BigBen in Round 9 and Stafford in Round 11. Thats 2 rounds ahead of their current ADP for both.Considering every other team is likely to already have a starting QB, I think you're golden.Whats not to like about this kid? Rocket arm, horrible defense (leading to more shootouts), and tons of weapons on offense (Megatron, Best, Burleson, Scheffler, Pettigrew).I really think the smart move is to wait on QB and grab this kid as your QB1 around rd 9. Thoughts?

His Oline. Everything else is there.Whats not to like about this kid?
I really don't get what people see in Stafford. The guy has the exact same problems he had when he was a freshman at Georgia, and none of them have improved at all. If they haven't even mildly improved in that span of time, what makes anyone think they're going to greatly improve overnight?Bad accuracy.A complete lack of touch.Poor decision making.I see absolutely nothing in Matt Stafford to differentiate him from Kyle Boller.

Yeah this makes sense. I guess it depends on who would be available in the 8th or 9th rdI think the really smart move is to grab someone more certain to produce as QB1 in round 8 or 9 and Stafford as your QB2 in round 11.Whats not to like about this kid? Probably the worst post I have seen in this forum.I really don't get what people see in Stafford. FreeBaGel has been trying to spew this stuff about Stafford for a few years now. Stafford must have beat him up as a kid or something.Probably the worst post I have seen in this forum.I really don't get what people see in Stafford. McNabb suffers from the same problems you list but that hasn't stopped him from being an absolute FF stud or getting to a Superbowl. I'm not saying the Lions are going to the Superbowl, but they are going in the right direction. I'll still take Stafford over Sanchez and this year's rookie crop.I really don't get what people see in Stafford. Mcnabb certainly has his accuracy issues, but Stafford's touch and decision making aren't even in the same realm as Mcnabb's. The best thing Stafford has going for him is that he's going to get the opportunity to throw a ton of passes against defenses that aren't even trying anymore.McNabb suffers from the same problems you list but that hasn't stopped him from being an absolute FF stud or getting to a Superbowl. that's the dumbest idea I've ever heard.REALLY I KID I LOVE IT BUT SHUT UP KEEP HIM IN ROUND9Whats not to like about this kid? Rocket arm, horrible defense (leading to more shootouts), and tons of weapons on offense (Megatron, Best, Burleson, Scheffler, Pettigrew).

Stafford improved every year he was at UGA. I wasn't his biggest fan when he was there but even I have to admit that much. Not drawing that from stats, from watching games.I think he has tremendous upside this year, kinda like Schaub last year, but more of a risk.Someone jumps up almost every year. 2010 is his year.I really don't get what people see in Stafford. It's not really all that big a stretch. Naturally, it's no slam dunk, but among current QB's who were really high draft picks, Carson Palmer, Peyton Manning, Donovan McNabb, and Michael Vick all had Pro Bowl seasons in year two, and though I don't have the year end fantasy results handy, I'd wager a pretty penny all were top 10.Obviously, there are plenty of counter examples, too. But I think for a talented QB who is going to make it in this league, year two is about when you hope to start seeing top end results. At any rate, it's really not all that rare.I like Stafford, but I wouldnt draft him as a QB1. He is a year away from that.you should Draft him as a QB2 and if he gives you QB1 production you consider it a bonus.it usually takes a QB 3 years to get to a point where he is playing close to his potential and this kid is no different. I hope he does well, but to expect him to put up top 10 numbers is a stretch for almost any second year QB.
Not sure anyone is suggesting you draft him as a QB1; no need to really, he can be had in the late middle (9th-10th) rounds.I think he is an ideal QB2 in redrafts this year; the potential and the weapons are there. He doesn't warrant a high pick, but he's a good value. As for the criticism above...touch has always been an issue with him, and I suspect always will be. He's got a cannon and usually chucks it at one speed (really, really effing hard). As for accuracyhe has been sharp as a tack all preseason, but we'll see if that translates to the regular season. Ditto on his decision making, which seems much better. ASIDE - isn't the latter an issue with virtually all young QBs?The defensive secondary of the Lions is still pretty awful, so I think the situation is good from a FF perspective. Good weapons around him. Lot to like about the kid this year.
I think AB has touched on an important point here, and one I keep reading about every week - Stafford has become really good at getting the ball out quick. Yeah, he's always had a quick release, but I think what we are seeing is a QB who is getting more comfortable in trusting his reads. We here it every year about QBs who are maturing: the game has slowed down for him.Anthony Borbely said:BobbyLayne said:Not sure anyone is suggesting you draft him as a QB1; no need to really, he can be had in the late middle (9th-10th) rounds.I think he is an ideal QB2 in redrafts this year; the potential and the weapons are there. I pretty much agree with this. Stafford has great upside, possibly this year, but I'm not sure I'd want to count on him just yet. Also. his decision making has not only been much better, it has been much faster. Stafford is not taking a lot of time to go through his progressions in many cases. He seems to have a complete grasp of the offense. That, along with his quick release, added weapons, and modest improvement in the offensive line should reduce sacks and give Stafford a better chance to make more plays.
