Mazda CX-7 (1 Viewer)

We're currently looking at the Mazda CX-7 and the Honda CR-V to cart the growing family around in. The CR-V is the more practical of the choices (better gas mileage, excellent car history, retains value) and it is a Honda (no pun intended) while the CX-7 is the more entertaining choice (sporty look, more HP) but requires premium gasoline and lacks a little in the gas mileage department.

Does anyone have any experience with the CX-7 as that is the direction I'm leaning in? We can get the basic model for around $20K, and I'm adding a NAV System to it that hold loads of bells and whistles to avoid the $4K charge the dealer wants for the Technology Package.

FBG input is much appreciated!

My last 2 cars were Mazdas and I love the things. Currently own a 2000 Protege with 85,000 miles. Spent less than 1,000 in 7 years for repairs, not counting oil changes and what not. I have another car and keep that as my beater, but I love the thing.

The Mazda link says that the base model starts at around $24K, are they willing to discount that much to get you back to the $20K you mentioned? I doubt you'll get a comparably equipped CR-V for that price because Honda doesn't typically discount much if at all, but I would say the Honda is the better car. But, if you're into the styling and the HP, then maybe the Mazda fits better. I'll just say this, Mazda's styling seems to look good when it first comes out, but it doesn't age well (e.g. Mazda MX-6 from a few years ago, looked good then, not so much now). Honda's are more conservatively styled, but that style holds up well over time.

One of the dealerships around here (Atlanta) has held a special to move a few of the Sport models each weekend at $19,867 +TTL. I don't think I can pass that up as I'll be financing around $15K after my trade-in. That's practically free these days!

Wife has a Mazda Tribute SUV. It's a little more truck-like than the one you're considering but it has been a very good vehicle.

Bought one for $18,500. Sutherlin Mazda if you are in the market and in the Atlanta area.

We looked hard at both the CX-7 and the CRV but ultimately went with the 07 Toyota RAV4. The CX-7 has a very strange design imo. It looks great from some angles but from other angles it kind of looks like a station wagon. The design for the 07 CRV is equally bizarre- looks like a hearse imo. Its a completely different design than all the previous CRV models - so dont be fooled by the name. It also has a pretty small engine compared to other cars in its class. I personally dont like many of these new cross-over designs.

We chose the 07 RAV4 - which is in the same class as the CX7 and CRV- because it has the strongest engine of the three (v6 vs. v4 and more horsepower), equally good mileage and still looks (sort of) like a more traditional SUV. Its also a great drive. Just one guys opinion.

I got a guy at work who can't stop talking about his RAV4. It seems like a nice little vehicle but damn he acts like it's a Benz or something.

Bought an '07 Mitsubishi Outlander XLS a month ago and am loving it.
We were very close to getting that vehicle but got a great deal on the Mazda CX-9. We have been very pleased so far and it has much more room. We liked the CX-7 but needed the third row seat.

This is why we're looking at the CX-9. How long have you had it? What are the biggest plusses and minuses?

Just purchased a Honda Pilot yesterday. We looked at the CX 7 and the wife really did not like it.

Honda is having some real good deals now. The dealers are getting $3500 kick back on the Pilots. You can basically get one for Invoice minus the $3500.

Only since Saturday. We took it on an overnight trip and loved the room in back and how it handled. Our friends really like it too. It has good acceleration, 3 different climate control settings, great interior with a lot of room. The Bose sound system is worth it!My wife loves it and she didn't want another minivan. We had a Mazda MPV that treated us well.

 We're pushing our purchase decision out to December, so I might bump this then to see what you've experienced since Saturday.
