McDonalds: Self-Serve Kiosks (1 Viewer)

The Busy The Tired

Footballguy
My local McDonalds has these self-serve kiosks that let you order food on your own! There was a line of three people that I was able to skip ahead of by ordering from this kiosk. Paid via debit card.

The future is great!

meh...I don't think you have much chance of getting a phone number from the kiosk.

I met my wife when we both worked at McDonald's.  If these things had been in place 30 years ago I never would have met my wife.

Curse you McDonald's for rolling this wonderful, labor saving device out 30 years too late!!

Plus she would have never enjoyed your "Big Mac"

Hardee's has had the kiosks for a while.  Did that for breakfast after church this past week because they were offering a 10%discount

Fast food workers are becoming obsolete. The age of the restaurant self-service kiosks has dawned, and it's the end of fast food as we know it. McDonald's is striding into the 21st century with the rollout of the "Create Your Taste" touchscreen kiosks, on which custom burgers can be built as well as full-menu ordering.May 16, 2016

Most of the quick service restaurants at the Disney World resorts have had these for a few years.

Really a no brainer IMO.

As a 350 lb man w a limited income, cast-iron stomach and questionable will to live, i'm thinking of offering the ultimate fast-food service. Hit my site, order whatever crap you want, i will cook/order it, choke that ####er down, deal with the indigestible lump, send you a text of my "mmm, yum" face that will scare you away from fastfood unto eternity and blast it all out in the morning - all for a very reasonable fee. Save y'all the troubs, eliminate the middle man entirely.

I used one last year in Europe (it was New Year's night and everything else was closed) and found it easier than trying to communicate with a counter guy in Portuguese.

I don't view this as a game changer.  I don't eat more than a handful of fast food burgers in the course of a given year and automated service won't make me any more or less inclined to get fast food.  Presumably, it'll help the bottom line for the store owners but it's not like they're going to reduce prices.

truth.  The last several years I've really focused on a healthier diet.  The occasional times I have to eat fast food (like whenI am traveling) it disgusts me now.
yep.  that's the reaction your body is supposed to have.

I'll make the occasional exception for a pizza delivery when I'm too hungover to cook, but for the most part now I'm 0% fast food, and it feels great.

This.

The problem in airports (where they predominately have been placed until now) is that if you don't know the local word for threehundredandsixtyfour that the guy at the counter will belt out at some point to let you know your order is ready you are still SOL

I have used them at WaWa and Panera Bread in the lasf couple of weeks.

And to top it off invariably when we pass a McDonald's she'll say, "we met at a McDonald's honey."

Do you have any idea how many McDonald's there are in this country?  #### you Ronald McDonald you evil ####### corporate clown!!

I've seen some where there's a screen near the pickup window that shows the orders when they're ready.

The panera model where u order from phone and the food is waiting for u bagged on a shelf where you don't have to talk to anyone is the bestest

Meh...someone still has to make the sandwiches.

The worst thing about it is that by letting national chains like this save some money....they're going to be around longer.

There was an Arbys in Denver that had these some 10 years ago - it lasted a little while and then they took them out. It was a mess trying to do the value meals and specials. But this was back in the day when screens were more like PC's - with squares to touch that was the sandwich. I liked ordering with it if you had a "goto" meal and knew the clicks. But it was a mess for new people and what I feel will be an issue is the lack of a standard just like the credit card readers.
