McIntosh (1 Viewer)

Will he play any later this year?
Word out of the FO is that he's still learning the system. As Rocky put it, you have to earn your playing time with the Redskins. I'd imagine we start to see him soon regardless. Probably once they are mathmatically eliminated from the playoffs. As of now though, he's just a special teamer.

McIntosh Makes His Defensive Debut at Linebacker

Washington Redskins rookie Rocky McIntosh played with the first defensive unit in its base package for the first time this season. McIntosh, the Redskins' top pick in the April draft, has been a consistent performer on special teams but until yesterday had not been able to crack the defensive rotation at weak-side linebacker.

McIntosh made his first impact play a week ago on special teams when he blocked a punt against Atlanta.

"I think he was good," linebacker Marcus Washington said. "He had that youthful bounce that young guys have."

IIRC, he was in a good bit in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, when the D was doing a decent job holding the Eagles in check. No stats (although a tackle that was credited to Fox should have been Rocky's IMO) but I don't think he blew anything either. Not sure if there is anything to read into this, but he was definitely on the sidelines during the Eagles' last, clock-draining drive. On Westbrook's last run for a first down (allowing Garcia to kneel thrice to end the game) Marshall and Fox essentially went to plug the same hole and were both taken out of making a play at the line by Tra Thomas (ETA: Fox was able to recover and chase Westbrook down from behind; too little, too late, though).

Redskins are mathmatically eliminated from the Playoffs, you'll probably start seeing a lot more of him now.

Holdman started the game but looked normal for him, which is to say :bowtie: , so they put Rocky in in the second half and he was equally unimpressive. ;)

Marcus Washington has been downgraded to doubtful. Not sure yet how that will affect Rocky.

From redskins.com:

If Washington cannot play, Williams and linebackers coach Dale Lindsey could employ a number of packages with veterans Jeff Posey and Warrick Holdman seeing action.

Posey is listed as Washington's backup at strong-side linebacker. However, the team could shift weak-side starter Holdman to strong-side and give rookie Rocky McIntosh extended playing time. McIntosh saw action at weak-side during last Sunday's 16-10 win over the New Orleans Saints.

"What we've done in there is, we've had Jeff in there, we've had Warrick in there, and we've had a lot of different packages rotating in," Williams said after Thursday's practice. "We'll get the best guys out there."

Redskins :: LB

Rookie LB McIntosh May Start Week 16

Jason La Canfora, Washington Post -

Redskins rookie LB Rocky McIntosh said he has been practicing at the weak side this week. McIntosh might get his first start on Sunday.

Washington's injury, as the Sam, won't affect McIntosh directly. Posey would replace him.

Overall though, as stated above, I would expect McIntosh to get the lion's share of playing time over Holdman given that they are no longer competing for the playoffs and they may as well see what they have with McIntosh.

Holdman (SLB), Marshall (MLB) and McIntosh (WLB) started the game (NFL.com gamebook). Holdman and Marshall played in nickel packages.

McIntosh did well. Ended up with 8 solos and seemed to be in the mix a lot. Holdman blew a coverage or two.

He has 10 tackles in my league so he probably had 2 ST tackles.
Yes, he did. I definitely remember one nice tackle on punt coverage. He's done well there this year.McIntosh made the defensive play of the game for Washington. With a little over 2 minutes left in a tie game, St Louis lined up for a 3rd-and-1 at their own 27. Washington initially lined up with only 10 players. McIntosh came on the field and Marshall was waving him over quickly up to the LOS. On a dead run from the sideline, Rocky jumped right over the RG and helped keep Jackson from getting the first down. That stop (tackle credited to Holdman) led to a punt and what should have been the Redskins game-winning FG drive had Betts not fumbled.

I look forward to seeing him play again Saturday night. Holdman should get the bench in nickel.
