Meachem (1 Viewer)

What are you Meachem owners doing with him? He wasn't even active this week...and Henderson and Patten both played well.

Is he worth holding on to. Guys are available on the waiver wire and I could be scooping them up and dropping this guy.

Is he of any value or not?

Meachem really has me confused on what to do with him. Him being inactive week 1 was from left field. Meachem had played well in preseason and the Saints have a first round pick invested in him. They also don't have "star" WRs ahead of him starting opposite Colston. I play in a 12 team, with only 6 reserve players per team. In other words, if your players aren't producing it is next to impossible to ignore. I have 4 or 5 WRs better than him at the moment, so he might get his walking papers very soon.

Saints Insider: Reading between the lines from Payton's press conference

Posted by Jeff Duncan, The Times-Picayune September 08, 2008 2:45PM

On Robert Meachem being declared inactive: "I think it was just this first week. I don't envision that being the case all season long, but in this game, we went in with a plan of who we wanted up and we went with it."

Reaction: Regardless of the spin, it's not a good sign that a healthy Meachem can't make the active roster on game day. Not sure who Payton is going to sit to elevate Meachem. Starters Marques Colston, David Patten and Devery Henderson appear secure and reserves Lance Moore and Terrance Copper are better special teams players. It's going to be a weekly quandary for Payton.

Redraft, Drop him fast and get someone playing.

Dynasty take a few minutes and find a better prospect on the waiver wire then dump him.

In redraft, yes, drop him.

In dynasty, if you have carried him this long it would be foolish to dump him now so that in week four or five or whenever he finally starts and does well some other owner can pick him up off waivers for nothing. I will hold him until at least the end of this season in dynasty. Lots of WRs who do nothing their first and second years. He has the pedigree, the skills, and we saw in this off season, the drive, to succeed. If you draft a rookie WR in dynasty you have to keep them at least two years or you shouldn't draft them in the first place--trade your picks if there are no good RBs because WRs almost always take time to evaluate and one game into his second season is not enough time.

I know this is out of left field, but is it possible that a team very thin at WR like the Seahawks could make a move for him at all?

Or is that just fantasy clouding reality?

Fantasy. The Seahawks traditionally develop their own WRs. Meachem isn't any better than the "no names" they already have. He's only on everyone's radar because he's on New Orleans' O (on a team like Chicago, he's Bradley but with higher draft status).

Rotoworld Article

Underneath page 1 title "Some Panic is Acceptable" is the following snippet about Meachem:

"Robert Meachem was a healthy scratch, people. He's behind Lance Moore on the depth chart. He's not a sleeper and is a waste of fantasy roster space."

I was high on this guy to draft him this year and someone took him a few spots before me, forcing me to take Eddie Royal, and I'm glad he took him. Healthy scratch seems pretty sad to me. Besides, Brees has so many weapons on that team that the #2 WR (even if Meachem makes it there) is a shaky start. Seems like a boom or bust every week.

I'de move on if there is someone appealing on the wire.

I still don't understand the Saints' thinking here at ALL. He played very well in the pre-season, and by all reports he was great in practice. Come gameday he's INACTIVE? What is wrong with these guys?

People cutting him now will regret it. Those who own him, a question: were you really expecting anything from him early in the year? If yes, you were not informed. If no, why the worry? So he was inactive. He doesn't play special teams. I still believe he'll be starting by midseason.

says the guy w/ Meachaem in 2 sig rosters :wink:I spent a 12th rounder and he looked like a decent enough sleeper candidate in the pre-season. But, not even being worthy of the active roster says A LOT about how NO views him now. Maybe he'll get his chance when Devery starts dropping the important passes, or one of the guys in front of him gets hurt. Dynasty hold, Redraft - I think I'm moving on.

:Slighthijack:

Will Henderson or Patten produce more this year? Need help in a league with deep rosters and they're both available.

Henderson had one good play. That is it. The Saints threw the ball a lot, but he wasnt targeted all that much.

I'm sure he's got value. Tough think is holding on to him until week 10 or so. I already had to drop him to pick up Eddie Royal.

I had a claim in to drop Meachem for another player, but now I'm gonna hold him. I know people have been saying this for weeks, but he really is the best WR aside from Colston in NO.

I am also a Colston owner, so hopefully this handcuff situation works out & Meachem is startable.

This is his chance to shine.

I'd rather have Patten on my squad. Like Tchula said, Dev had one big play. I'll need to see some consistency from him before I am a believer.
Patten only had two catches. Did he have more targets? Seems to me like Shockey gets the real bump here. I'm dropping Ginn for one of them, WTH, and I can't figure out which. Patten seems slightly more valuable in PPR. :goodposting:

Don't forget Lance Moore in this mess.

It's amazing that in one of the league's premier passing teams, the distribution of (potential) production is so hard to predict. Dropped Meachem last night (of course before the news about Colston  ) for Sammy Morris, so I'm out.

This looks like a situation where guessing who will get decent stats between the 6 options (Bush, Shockey, Patten, Devery, Moore, RM) might be more trouble than it's worth (starter wise w/ the WRs).

Bush and Shockey are the winners here IMO. I'm sure one of the WRs will put up startable #s, but GL guessing which one.

So I'm starting to think long & hard about Meachem. IR'd Colston and grabbed Henderson, but am seriously considering making a roster spot for Meachem, at least for this week when I have a chance to see what a Colston-less offense looks like.

The more I think about it, the more I could see Meachem slowly filling the Colston Role and everyone else remaining in their previous WR spots.

I know he wasn't dressed last Sunday, but that sounds like it more had to do with ST play than anything else. Looking at all those WRs, Meachem is the only one with the physical tools to assume Colston's role in the offense. And they didn't draft him in the first round for nothing.

Any other Colston owners giving seriously thought to making room for this kid?

Nope. IR'd Colston and grabbed Henderson. Would have taken Patten but he was drafted earlier than I planned to get him at.Starting Henderson with confidence.Over Kevin Walter. If that tells you anything....

I'm holding...at least another week or two. Only spent a last rounder to get him. While I am subject to ridicule for having a guy on my roster who was a healthy scratch, my bigger fear is that I do not want to be among the suicide squad around here who drops him the week before he goes off.

Seahawks Develop their own receivers? you mean like Branch and Burleson?

Going for Meachem in both of my leagues. Dropping Reggie Brown in one. The guy had some amazing plays this pre-season and Colston's injury is just the thing to get him on the field.

anyone know why "butterfinger's" Henderson is ahead of him?

Here's what we know:Forum posters like to make jokes about Henderson's dropsSean Payton has said Meachem was not active in Week 1 because there were better options available for that particular week.I'll let you connect the dots on who the better play is...

I'm a Colston owner who grabbed Henderson yesterday when I heard the news (Patten was claimed prior to the injury news), but I'd feel much more comfortable with Walter over Henderson. Walter is more of a possession receiver like Patten. Henderson is a boom-or-bust player. I already have one of those starting (Santonio Holmes).

I did some digging around on the Saints boards to get the skinny on Meachem. From what I've read, the kid must not grasp the offense because he certainly hasn't won Payton's trust. That could change now that he has an opportunity to get on the field, but I'm not using three roster spots on Saints receivers.

But when asked about Meachem on Wednesday, Saints Coach Sean Payton was vague in discussing how Colston's absence would impact Meachem's playing time."We'll see as we get to the week's end how much it's going to affect him," Payton said. "But there's other players, veteran players, that understand what we're doing. David Patten, Lance Moore, those guys have all had plenty of reps, Terrance Copper. It's going to be important for Robert to be ready within the game plan. So it will be an opportunity for all those guys to get more playing time. So it affects Robert Meachem as well. And it's something that we're going to have a chance to see."

Ouch. What is the opposite of a ringing endorsement? A jingling indictment? Because that's what it sounds like Meachem got from his coach.

I drafted Meachem with my final pick & posted earlier on this thread that I was cutting him.

I'm also a Colston owner, so I'm gonna keep Meachem for at least another week.

No way I'd start any Saints over Walter until I see how it shakes out. You know Walter is getting 6 targets, Henderson or Meachem could only get 1. I actually am starting Walter
