Meal Delivery Services (1 Viewer)

A couple friends of mine recently recommended HelloFresh to my wife and I. They've been trying it over Blue Apron because it's usually shorter prep and cook time than Blue Apron. I know Plated is also out there. While it's definitely less expensive than going out it seems more expensive than just going to the grocery store yourself. My wife also has dietary restrictions (weird oil/grease/fat intolerance), so I'm not so sure they'd be able to work around that.

Has anyone ever tried one of these services, and do you think it's worth it? I might give it a try but I don't think it'd be a long-term trial and would probably cancel after the test drive. We don't mind going to the grocery store and my wife is a pretty decent cook who finds recipes and makes stuff up all the time. Just wanted to get an honest opinion from a crowd I trust. Thanks guys.

With the conditions you outlined in the second paragraph, it's not going to be worth it to you. It's for people who don't want to go food shopping and/or those who don't care about the lack in value.

Had Blue Apron for a couple of months. Takes ridiculously long to prepare the meals. We canceled it last week but are looking for other options as it's a good idea. Would like if it were less than 3 meals.

You can view all of the recipes ahead of time, and a lot of their meals contain lots of veggies and lean meats. Would be surprised if your wife had an issue with them.

This. Too much prep. Plus 1 out of the 3 meals always sucks.

Bump this thread for 2024. There are a TON of these services today.

Do you subscribe to one you particularly like? Factor, Dinnerly, Home Chef, etc etc etc there are so many to choose from.

I was a little surprised that the cost per individual meal can run around $12. Might be too steep for me. Thanks for any advice.

They are a pain in the butt for customer service, expect issues. Always feel like the plastic waste is insane. Hello fresh accidentally shipped me like 8 boxes, weekly for awhile and we just ate it.

I normally just eat light all day and then have a big dinner. So that wasn't compatible, but it was free.

Also got a trial of blue apron from work. They dropped it at our office for a month for free for a donation to a food bank. Feel like the blue apron was fancier food but it was basically just dump all the ingredients in a pot or pan and go. Hello was a bit more work. Neither was tedious.

I did Factor for awhile. Most of their meals began to taste the same and also high in sodium. They cut back on their promotions a lot but there was a time when you could order enough for two weeks, cancel for a week and they’d send you a come back discount that made the meals less than $5 each. Rinse and repeat.

Yeah, we had a similar experience. Blue Apron really taught my wife and I how to cook better but it wasn't cheap and the meals became tedious.

We realized over the course of time that we had enough of the recipes that it was just cheaper to buy the ingredients for the recipes we liked.

I'm currently doing Factor as I'm on keto and I think they do those pretty well. Agreed though that over time the meals taste similar.

Also did Factor here for awhile, about 6 weeks. I mixed up my menu well enough to keep it somewhat different and loved everything I ate. And beyond easy. But the cost and sodium content made me cancel. Also a TON of package waste.
