Memorial Day - Thank You (1 Viewer)

I usually post this on this day.

It's a picture of a memorial bracelet I wear.

I’ve worn this metal band for 21 years.
And I can’t tell you exactly why. It’s honoring Sergeant Joseph D. Hunt who died in Iraq in 2005.
I never met him, nor do I know his family. He was from the small town where I worked and I was moved by the way our community responded to his passing.
The reasons I wear it feel complicated. It’s honor and sacrifice and responsibility when putting people in harms way. It makes me sad and happy and angry and proud and much more.
It makes me think of things bigger than myself. So I keep wearing it.
Thank you, Sergeant Hunt.

I posted below comment on the same thread in the football forum. Just wanted to show support in both. I extend my hand to my brow to the fallen....

Good post. Memorial Day always gives me an emotional response. A calm sadness in my heart. Hard to quantify. My wife knows this day is heavy for me personally and gives me space. Its just such a hard day to celebrate. I get why people celebrate it. I think it's good people do, but more then celebrating its a day of rememberance. It's also not just a day people get half off on new mattresses. Your bracelet hits with me. My eyes water up looking at it. It could have so many different names on it. It very easily could have my name. It's just a reminder of how horrible war can be, but also a reminder of the selfless service sacrifice so many have made for this wonderful country.

All gave some
Some gave all...
