mendenhall is being viewed as a "complete back" this year

in the past few years his reception total has only been in the 20s

does anyone think he can get into the 40+ catch range this year?

He certainly has the skills to do it. Has great hands and is quite good in the open field.

But there's no other QB in football that hates to check down to his HB more than Ben Roethlisberger. That offense is designed to get the ball to his receivers down the field. And with five quality wideouts this season, I don't see Mendenhall getting many opportunities in the passing game.

Isaac Redman will play a lot of 3rd-down RB situations, so that will also siphon off opportunities for Mendy.

Overall, based on what Ive seen in the first half of their preseason games, I think the Steelers will be throwing to the RBs much more than the last couple years. It wasnt quite as apparent last night due to all the big plays and a 3 play first drive, but it was in their first 2 games.

The hard thing to say is how many of those passes go to Mendenhall. I see Redman getting many more touches this year compared to last year, and Mewelde is primarily a receiving back. Mendy should be a lock for about 15 more catches, but hard to guarantee more than that because I see the other 2 catching about 30 passes between them.
