I want to preface this post by stating I have run our league now for 11+ years. It seems over the past couple of seasons, especially this year there is a this large void in group participation. I'm not sure if it's adding some new guys over the years or what, but our message board is basically consisting of me and my main bud. Everyone else just puts in their lineups and that's it! Frankly, without trash talking what the #%#* fun is a league anyhow? It's really just flat ### boring if you want to know the truth. I might as well join one of those cotton pickin anonymous internet leagues without the commish hassels. Any one else experience large tumbleweeds rolling through your leagues? As far as I'm concerned,no one should have a life outside of FF from Sept. - Dec. (insert ha,ha). Do I hear an Amen?

Yeah, I feel ya. My main league is a ghost town when it comes to trades. 4 weeks in now and nothing. Not to mention we drafted in week 1 of the preseason.

Trades sit on guys desks for 4-5 days at a time and I end up canceling them because there isnt enough time for them to go through before the sunday lineups are due.

in the 12 team league we have about 3 owners that basically come on-line sunday morning and then tuesday morning to make waiver moves. Its a $200 league, so I dont mind the subpar competition. But its not as much fun when you only have a hand ful of owners who even stop in the site on a daily basis.

:hot: Are you me? Ive actually complained this year on my league message board cuz nobody ever trash talks or participates except for me and one other person. The only time someone else trash talks besides me is when they are retaliating against me. Whats the fun without trash talk? Its supposed to be fun this stuff and I think some people take it too seriously.I also used to write up a weekly column summarizing the weeks review. I used to add funny one-liners and stuff about that weeks games. Everybody enjoyed reading it but I got so frustrated by the lack of participation that I just stopped writing them this year. One or two people have begged me to do them again but I gave up on it.

Shady, want to join my league? I as commish also used to write the weekly recap (pretty darn funny if I do say so myself). I too also relinquished that weekly duty as well to the rest of the league. I figured if I took the time to write it, dog gone it there should be some league involvment in other ways. So I now have whomever wants to step up to the plate and put his two cents in about the weekend, surprisely some guys have picked the slack in this regard and responded, so I guess I don't have as bad as others I surmise.

The funny thing is, we use rtsports, and I can see who logs into the site. And the whole league logs into the site just about every day. Everybody sets their lineups, makes FA pickups, and even trades. But nobody participates in the fun part, the league message board. So weird.

They've all been here at FBG swimming in the pool. Sorry a couple have been swallowed by bigger fish.

Amen. There are about 4 active board participants in ours. I would suggest posting things to try and generate some discussion or reaction. I have a league member who does a weekly fantasy prediction post in which he cracks jokes about each team. Another member always posts a trash talking post against his opponent that week. We have also had a recent round of photoshop efforts to get some guys fired up. Some folks reply, but some you just can't reach.

20-year league. I guess by the time there was on-line management we were too mature for that sort of thing.

Funny though, the newer the member the longer the team name. Don't you youngsters have anything better to do than self indulgence? Trust me. I've read these boards for years and you're not that funny/creative/interesting and nobody cares.

I hear you, guys. I was thinking the same thing recently. My league was filled with 9 out of 12 trash talkers and active owners when it started 10 years ago. The same 8 of the 9 are still in it but activity has dropped. In our heyday, we would have three pages a day of posts on the CBS site, as Commish I would update the homepage broads constantly (sometimes every 1/2 hour while at work), guys would tune in just for the pics. I would run four to five polls a week and we would get over 10 votes on each poll, easy. I too would write League recaps, mostly poking fun at one team and just making inappropriate comments at all others. Guys started writing their own news stories to take trash talk to a higher level. The draft was just as fun, but I guess all good things must come to end.I started the down spiral by Commishing (sic) three leagues, so I kind of had my main league on cruise control. But it got worse and worse each year. Last year was our rock bottom, hardly any posts, no comments on my recaps or homepage hotties and it started with a poor draft. I promised myself this year, I would try and capture the glory days by churning out stories, updating the league page hottie at least daily :pics: , posting youtube stories, running 2 to 3 polls a week and trashing my opponent through chats :porked: . Well the one or two positive comments a week regarding my Video recap show :nerd: has re-energized me and the league sort of. Some owners privately told me they missed the stories last year but were too lazy or out of it to comment. I put probably 8 hours a week running this thing, and a new guy this year publicly posted he can't keep up with the content and I immediately churned out almost twice as much this week.So keep doing the recaps, stories or what have you to make your league like it used to be and maybe you'll will bring back some of the good old days. I know those little comments go a long way in creating a better atmosphere, but sometimes you have to push through the dead times until guys respond positively.

The 2 keeper leagues I commish are quiet too. I chalk it up to most of us being in multiple leagues and I know my life gets too busy managing 9 leagues to do much else. I have learned not to assume a quiet owner is any less prepared or strong than a mouthy trash talkin one.

I been in alot of leagues over the years not all like the message board stuff or trash talking. I use to trash talk alot but stopped, reason is when I did trash talk some of the teams that knew they had no chance of making the playoffs around week8 even, decided to trade their good players to teams I had to go against in the next weeks, results I lost some weeks.

Sometimes it doesn't pay to trash talk in my book.

After all the guys in my league started getting married we did away with the 'your girlfriend', 'your momma', and 'your sister' jokes...it got really bla. Now that no one likes their wives anymore we've reinstated the wives jokes and it's never been better...

Get over it gramps before I break ya hip...I bet y'all talk about how back in your day hot dogs cost a nickel and football helmets were folded up and put in your pocket after practice...just needed to self-indulge at your expense a bit...nothing personal...just being a crazy whipper-snapper...

I play in money leagues. Period. That's why I play. The "trash talking" is usually unimaginative and inane. There's only so much you can say. "Hey, I'm gonna kick your ### this weekend". "Okay".

If you're in FF for that silliness, then good for you. I'm in it because I love football and I want a shot at making a little extra scratch.

I'm thinking your team name is a tad bit too long Mr. Paddy O' Seanessy. How about just P.O.S. ? to appease us codgers.
