Hello everyone -- I've been testing the latest message board software over the last couple of weeks on some speedy new hardware and the upgrade is ready to go. To perform the upgrade, I will be taking the board down tomorrow morning around 5 AM Central Time to begin the process of moving it over to the new hardware. The following things will be updated as part of the move:
- New Hardware (webserver and database server)
- New Software (Invision Board 2.3.1, the latest and greatest)
- New Skin (their Pro Skin - 25% smaller in download size, easier to read, cleaner look, and a better color match for the forthcoming redesigned site)
I've attached a screen shot of the board running the new skin on the new server. The logo will look better than it does in the screenshot as that was the work of a tech guy and not a graphic artist.
I expect the total downtime to be around 6 hours. But I made the maintenance window 7 hours just to be safe. I figure we'll be back in business in the new environment by noon Central or so. Once it comes back up, performance may be a little sluggish for a while as everyone who hits the site re-caches all the board graphics. But it should not be too noticeable or last too long.
When the board comes back up, everyone will have to log in on the new server for the first time, so you may want to request a password reminder in advance if you don't remember yours. Also, when the board first comes back up, you will likely have the press <Ctrl-F5> to get all the updated graphics after you've logged in, so if your screen looks strange, give that a try.
