Miami Dolphins QB Situation (1 Viewer)

I will be watching this situation closely this off season and will report news from the 3 major South Florida news papers regarding the situation along with some personal opinions from time to time.

This is truly going to be a wide open situation and all 3 have an equal opportunity to win the starting spot. He is how i currently rank them in order of who is leading and why. All 3 will have to learn a new playbook. All 3 are very close IMO.

McCown- Parcels and Co brought him in, so he is a Parcels guy with NFL experience.

Beck- Has at least a couple starts versus none with Henne, he also has the best rapport with the wr's.

Henne- No starts, no NFL experience but he was drafted early for a reason.

Unless McCown is awful in OTA's and Training Camp, I think he starts the season. The team will continue to develop Beck and Henne and within a couple of years both will be commodities in the NFL.

HENNE NEWS/NOTES:

Miami Dolphins rookie QB Chad Henne hits wall at final minicamp workout

The following is a transcript of Dolphins' rookie quarterback Chad Henne's minicamp news conference:

Q: What was the biggest reason for your struggles in the final practice of minicamp?

A: "I was kind of inconsistent with my throws, missed some assignments, but other than I felt pretty good, just getting my feet wet. It's tough as a quarterback; you have to know what everybody is doing, know your checks, where your progressions are, your footwork. I get frsutrated because, I think, I can make every throw out there. I'm just that kind of quarterback. But it's just basically about learning. I mean getting that playbook and see what you can do with it, know where your hot [reads] are and just know where your progression is. Once I get back here again I'll feel more comfortable and do better."

McCown seems likely to start the season, but I will not be surprised if Henne starts. Beck has no chance in my opinion. Parcells showed what he thinks of Beck by taking a QB in round 2 when his team has holes everywhere.

I agree. Tuna doesn't sign McCown and draft Henne in the 2nd of he thought Beck can shoulder the load. That being said, Parcells will allow Beck to compete for the job. If Beck wins it, great. But Parcells doesn't waste a high second on a QB on a team that won 1 game last year if he thought the QB position wasn't a gaping hole that needed to be filled...

So ONE of the knocks of Henne coming out of college was that he locked onto one receiver too long and he is now getting frustrated with reading through his progressions...

McCown to start and then maybe Beck by the end of the year if at all, I just remember how long Parcell's held off Romo.

Please tell me that you two own this guy in dynasty leagues. What did you see in his couple of starts that makes you think he can handle being a starting QB in the NFL?
his last play of last year while getting pressure in the pocket and a laser sharp throw in to the back of the endzone for a TD gave me hope.edited to add: youtube is amazing. it actually had the play on there http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lrBhuFw7rg

God love YouTube....It's a nice pass. It was also garbage time in a blow out. And one pass does not a QB make.

I think Parcel's actions speak volumes here with the pick and the FA signing...

Beck has an excellent release and throws a very good ball, but he obviously needs some more time to develop better accuracy and consistency (if he can)

I disagree with this post. The Dolphins could have taken Henne at 32, but they passed. They had no way of knowing he would still be there at 57. He was their second highest rated QB, and I think they took him b/c he fell to 57. I think they were planning on taking a different QB later, but the fact that henne was there at 57 changed their plans.I think Beck and McCown battle it out (with McCown having the edge). Henne will be the project QB who "could" start if he wows them. (parcells likes to bring QBs on slowly, not throw them into the fire. This, imho, takes Henne out of the equation for 2008-9 unless injury occurs.)
