Miami RB Situation (1 Viewer)

This situation is a complete avoid for me. The Fish look like a mess. The oline is showing big cracks and I doubt they hold many leads the ROS. I agree that Ajayi looks the part of a power runner, but they do not have the big uglies upfront. When they fall behind I see them using Drake and Pead more as passing down backs. It is a RBBC situation on a team that looks like hot garbage. Not a lot of historical success in those kind of situations.

Gase Breaks Down Dolphins Loss

I think that’s something I’m going to evaluate this weekend (and) see if I can maybe narrow it down a little bit, so we can get one of these guys in rhythm,” Gase said. “I feel like I have a pretty good idea as far as what some of these guys showed me the last two games. I want to discuss it with (Offensive Coordinator) Clyde (Christensen) and (Running Backs Coach) Danny (Barrett) and see where we’re at with Arian (Foster) going into the next game and come up with a plan to see if we can get a little bit (of) consistency going on here. I know it’s hard on the offensive line. It’s hard on the backs. It’s hard on me as a play-caller as far as who’s in the game, what runs are best to run in those situations. We’ll try to narrow it down here. It would make it easier if we had more than 47 plays or whatever it is. But we got some time this weekend to be able to evaluate.
RBs over the past couple games.

Jay Ajayi 32 snaps (28.6%) 13 rushing attempts 61 yards 4,7 ypc 1 TD 2 targets 2 receptions 13 yards. 74 total yards 2.3 yards per snap

Kenyan Drake 34 snaps (30.4%) 11 rushing attempts 52 yards 4.7 ypc 2 targets 2 receptions 11 yards. 63 total yards 1.85 yards per snap

Damien Williams 24 snaps (21.4%) 3 rushing attempts 24 yards 8 ypc 5 targets 4 receptions 16 yards. 40 total yards 1.7 yards per snap

Isiah Pead 21 snaps (18.8%) 8 rushing attempts 22 yards 2.8 ypc 1 target 1 reception 6 yards. 28 total yards 1.3 yards per snap

Narrowing down who is more effective seems pretty clear based on these numbers. Another way to look at this would be by success rate of down and distance, but none of these players have enough volume to really evaluate that yet..

Sounds like Pouncey may be ready to practice in the coming week which is a prerequisite for him being able to play in the next game.

Why base it on snap count and not touches? Snap count could be deceptive.

This includes both. Touches could be just as if not more deceptive. For example Williams only had 3 rushing attempts but he had a 15 yard run. That is why his ypc is so high.

By touches

Jay 4.93

Drake 4.86

Wiliams 3.43

Pead 3.11

None of the players have enough of a sample size to really draw any conclusion but that is all there is to evaluate.

When people say a couple.. some times they mean more than two even though that is not correct. They should say few.

In that case it would be

Jay Ajayi 69 snaps (38.9%) 18 rushing attempts 75 yards 4,17 ypc 1 TD 6 targets 6 receptions 44 yards. 119 total yards 1.73 yards per snap 7.3 ypt

Kenyan Drake 52 snaps (29.4%) 13 rushing attempts 64 yards 4.9 ypc 4 targets 4 receptions 17 yards. 81 total yards 1.56 yards per snap 4.3 ypt

The other two were inactive against NE so no change.

Updated the math.

...and Drake's 2 carries against the Bengals' prevent defense last night certainly inflated his numbers.
Yeah I did try to look up success rate from football outsiders, but none of the RB have enough touches to qualify for that by their metrics.

I didn't feel like breaking down the opportunities by down and distance. That is certainly a factor however as is the strength of opponent.

One thing I have noted however is in regards to Gase saying that he wants to keep the same RB in for the entire drive, and that if the drive goes 3 and out to give the same RB another drive to try to get in a rhythm. Well the only player he has pulled mid drive is Jay Ajayi. The other guys he has stuck with for the entire drive.

Examples of this are when Drake scored his TD from 7 yards out, this was on a drive that Ajayi started in the no huddle. Another example was from the game against the Bengals where Jay converts a 3rd down giving the offense a new set of downs, but then gets pulled for Pead IIRC.

In game one Foster played on 87% of the snaps. Damien Williams did have a 31 yard reception in that game.

 Foster 47 snaps (87%) 13 rushing attempts 38 yards 2.9 ypc 5 targets 3 receptions 62 yards. 100 total yards 2.12 yards per snap 12.4 ypt

Williams 6 snaps (11%) 2 rushing attempts 9 yards 4.5 ypc 2 targets 1 reception 31 yards 40 total yards. 6.66 yards per snap 15.5 ypt

Drake 1 snap (2%)

Gase must have caught Ajayi with his wife.

Nothing else would explain his flat out refusal to use his best RB.

:lmao:

Armondo Salguero Tweeted in game from Gilette that he wouldn't put Ajayi on the field again, it's the Drake show. I have a feeling if Foster is out for a while that the situation will be shared but that Drake is going to look better doing it.

-Miami traded 2-3 picks up to go get Drake, there is a plan. Ajayi was a 5th round after thought by the previous guy Phibin, he rushed for 100 yds as a rookie(For the ENTIRE SEASON) and sprouted a 30+ page thread in this forum...preposterous I tell you.

-The only snake oil salesman in these threads are Jay Ajayi sour grapes, don't be fooled by these con men broadcasting from their 1 bunk Hilton down in solitary.

I will be grabbing Drake off waivers and begin reaping my rewards.

Don't let Drake's ship sail away on you, now is the time to get on board.

Miami is 0-2, they will be 2-6 at some point, it's going to be a rookie fest or 2nd year fest as we get thru the season, more time will be allotted for Drake to see what he can do and if they have a RB they can rely on moving forward. If Drake isn't their bell cow by Week 6 then it's just a matter of time. I'm urging people to get out ahead of this.

-Also, All Pro Center Mike Pouncey has been OUT the first 2 games, his return will help all RBs but also Drake will have even bigger holes to push thru, right now he looks good and he doesn't have the best in the business blocking in front of him.

You just heard the word
