Miami/Thigpen/Marshall (1 Viewer)

Just brainstorming here, as a KC fan during some very dark times for the franchise I got to watch a lot of Tyler Thigpen. He was fun to watch and mobile, but one thing he did was locked on to Tony Gonzalez. It didn't matter if it was triple coverage, the ball was coming his way. Tony G being Tony G usually went up and got it with a couple of guys hanging off him.

Now looking at the current situation, what are the possibilities that Thigpen does the same thing with Brandon Marshall. Locking in on his possession receiver and constantly forcing it to him. I didn't get to see the end of the MIA game where Thiggy played, could anyone that did chime in on to what they saw? Was he making his progression of reads or still his usual 'look at the possession receiver and either force it in there or take off scrambling' game?

I'm sure we're not alone in hoping this may be the case as Marshall has been a huge bust thus far. I will most likely start him again but not expecting a huge game but you never know.

Just watched the 4th qtr on REWIND as I have been meaning to watch it myself to see how Thigpen looked. I was always impressed with how he played in KC. He looked great for Miami after knocking the rust off his first few throws. Looked accurate and throwing bullits. To me it looked like he went with the primary read....it's gonna be all Marshall and Fasano IMO. You could argue he locked onto Fasano more than Marshall even (if he did the same with Gonzo then it could be quite an uptick for Fasano). Bess looks like he will suffer the most. Although quite a small sample as it was mostly just one drive - they were running out the clock with Brown/Williams otherwise. One thing to watch is how much they use the wildcat now. They went to it in the redzone and pulled Thigpen...but then put him back in and he threw the TD to Fasano. To me Thigpen definitely passed the eyeball test and he certainly gives the team some spark - he was really firey after the TD and after a long pass to Fasano Marshall seemed to be cheering on Thigpen (he had one catch teh entire game before Thigpen came in and was visually displeased with Henne). He also is mobile and can scramble.....Why does Thigpen always surprise like this? He basically came in and lead the team down the field to score and seal the win - coaches and WR's looked happy. Just my 2 cents but I think this bodes well for Marshall and Fasano ...one caveat being we don't know how they will game plan with Thigpen....will they look to run teh ball mostly now? If so overall targets may be down but I would give a slight uptick to Marshall and Fasano.

A little biased maybe as I like Thigpen's game but hope that helps...

Yea I was thinking this is the last hurrah for Marshall in 2010 approach his expected level or performance. That said, I stuck to my guns all year as I'm sure most have, but he finally meets the pine for the rookie express of TB Mike & Dez in week 11 to see how this plays out. So, expect 9/120/2td from BM Thursday. One thing specific to this week, with the short week to prepare for an opponent these Thursday night games seem to be higher scoring affairs than usual. Not to mention the lack of Thigpen game film for CHI to look at since he's been in MIA.Romofan does have a very good point about Fasano. We'll learn a lot tomorrow night about how the 'Phins offense is going to look from here on out, I believe.

The Miami offense is a giant question mark right now. Although I like Thigpen, the achilles heel for this offense all year has been the play-calling of OC Dan Henning. The beat writer for the Miami Herald has an interesting blog posting up right now that discusses how predictable Henning's offense has become. Marshall was extremely frustrated last game because the opposing corners for TEN were actually telling Marshall what route he was going to run before the snap. More often than not, they were exactly right.

Add to this, Jake Long's status for tomorrows game is still questionable. I predict that fins will try to counter the elements with more wildcat.

This all could lead to a much needed spark in the offense or an epic fail on Thursday.

According to some reports down here, Marshall, Hartline, and thigpen seem to be buddies and marshall seems very happy that Thigpen is the QB. I think that Marshall's ability to catch in traffic and move around when a QB scrambles is going to benefit him.

Of course, dan henning is a QB killer so who knows for sure.

Keep in mind that Thigpen's success in KC was largely due to running Chan Gailey's Pistol offense. He was a great fit for that offense and his numbers showed it. Look at Ryan Fitzpatrick in Gailey's offense vs any other time. I'm not sure Thigpen is all that talented aside from running a spread. I'd expect a higher % of running plays and more wildcat.

That said, I'm picking up Thigpen off the WW this week in case he works out.

as a kc fan I was bummed when he got traded.....would have rather dumped Croyle......but i think MIA saw something in him and traded for a reason......he is definatley that kind of guy that can spark an offense.....Marshall makes pretty good adjustments when the QB leaves the pocket and I could see Thigpen looking for him when he scrambles......I know if I was scrambling and needed to gett rid of it I would be thinking Marshall has a better chance to make a play than anybody else, so I would be firing it his way even if covered.....Marshall does a pretty good job bailing out his QB's if he is in the right mindset.....maybe not making the play, but at least making sure it doesn't get picked.....after having watched Marshall out here in CO, I could see him getting behind a guy like Thigpen....and I could see Thigpen forcing the bal lto him.....IMO, Marshall it actually at his best when plays break down and he gets in space and makes adjustments....thats when he can use his freakish skills to turn a 8 yard pass into a 40 TD......

I really have no horse in this race, but I could see this combo producing the rest of the year...........

I did pick up Thigpen for depth and an outside chance of needing him if something happens at my QB position.......

also I think if Thigpen stays on the field for the wildcat, he could make it even tougher to defend, as it might create more things for the defense to worry about with Thigpens ability to run, etc......

Marshall will come on strong in this stretch of the season. Henne has been a major flop and the Dolphins need a spark. Thigpen will give it to us.

With that I don't expect a playoff run, we can't run, we can't rush the passer (Wake was our only option and now he is hurt), but from a fantasy perspective Marshall should benefit greatly from the QB change. And BTW although he has had only 1TD before last weeks game he was on pace for over 100 receptions.

Not a bust. But the TD numbers are killing his value right now. But that can change in a hurry with a late season push.
