Boy, has Boulware really fallen  He looked so promising at the end of the '04 season. Had one of the finest rookie seasons ever by a Seahawks player (at the time). Totaled 53 tackles, five interceptions, one sack, and a forced fumble. Five interceptions were the most by a rookie in club history and finished tied for second on the team with Marcus Trufant. Saw action in all 16 games, primarily on special teams and as a linebacker in nickel packages before taking over the starting strong safety job at Minnesota (12/12/04) for the final four games. Totaled 29 tackles during four starts which over an entire season would have amounted to 116, good enough to have led the team. NFC Defensive Player of the Week 11, PFW All-Rookie Team, ESPN.com All-Rookie Report Team.

What happened?

He is not due to become a UFA until 2010. Is his salary, cap freindly?

With more teams playing a base Cover/Tampa-2, maybe someone should look at him as a zone will backer.

I think his days of fantasy relevance are over. I can't see him playing WLB in the Tampa-2. I don't think he is athletic enough, nor big enough.

Boulware goes 6-2 / 225

He's compariable to ... June 6-0 / 227, Keiaho 5-11 / 226, Ellison 6-0 / 228, Sims 5-11 / 221.

I suppose he may not be athletic enough, but that wasn't the case when he came outta Florida State.

A top athlete whose game possesses large amounts of explosion, Boulware offers a lot of upside for the future and should just get better as he physically matures. Should be a starting weak-side linebacker midway through his rookie campaign and worthy of being drafted early in the second round.

Just curious what happened to his game.

I'm not sure what happened with Boulware either.

His tackling appeared to suffer over the past couple of seasons and he never developed enough in deep coverage to work in Seattle's coverage system. He'd do better as an exclusively in-the-box SS or big nickel type linebacker. A Tampa-2 could be a decent fit, but only if his short and intermediate zone instincts are better than his deep cover ability, which I would guess they are. With so many of those types of players being churned out of the college ranks, it's hard to envision a team taking a chance on him. Only takes one though.

Hey Jean curious where FBG had him ranked coming into 2005 season. Is it possible to find out? I had him as one of the top DB's in my startup dynasty draft back then. I dont think I was the only one  the Boulware koolaid :hot:

Before my time. The staff had him at the top of the sleeper list that season and I remember Norton loving him. I'm no Google savant and wasn't able to find a cached rankings page from before the 2005 season. Someone else may be smarter than me on that account.

I'm with you. I was wondering why Seattle did not attempt to trade him prior to the draft.

I'm hoping someone will chime in with his contract situation and salary numbers. You never know, an injury in training camp or preseason and Seattle may dangle him and see if someone bites. :excited: But ... not likely if he is cap freindly.

Just a wishful owner :hot:

The FBG consensus was DB8. I don't recall how many guys had rankings, this might have been the consensus of only three staffers. Norton had the highest ranking, if I remember well he had him DB4.

Hey ... Thanks Islander!

Thrilled he is in Houston ...... Almost cut him this offseason in my IDP ......... Hoping he gets a shot at Earls spot and sticks

Well ... he's definatley in a better situation than he was in Seattle. I think he'll be starting at SS sooner than later.

Texans fans are happt just have someone who has a chance to be better than the mess in the secondary. Maybe the worst safety situation in the NFL.

I know this is a bit old news. I still have some koolaid left, but running low. :lmao: I know the starters are set with Sharper and Williams.

Anyone know Sharper's contract status and figures? I'm still holding on to this guy, and want to make sure I look at this real close before I cut ties. I still can't beleive how he went from the next rising DB IDP star to nothing :goodposting:

Vikings sign Boulware for depth at safety

The Texans wanted Boulware to return as a linebacker, the position he played at Florida State. But the Vikings envision him as a safety, where he will back up starters Darren Sharper and Madieu Williams.

I didn't think moving him back to LB was all that far-fetched.

Sharper will be a free agent next year. $3.9 million this year+ $100,000 bonus.
