Mike Peterson confirmed at MLB (1 Viewer)

This may not warrant a new thread as I've sprinkled some educated speculation in a couple of others, but I continue to see Daryl Smith being pimped as the MLB in other places around the web. If you're still conflicted about Peterson, this should put most of your fears to rest.

From a transcription of interview with Times-Union beat writer Vito Stellino on The Audible

SB: Vito, my last question for you is on the defensive side of the ball. It's about one of the big leaders, Mike Peterson, whose season was ended by injury last year. The offseason sees them sign Daryl Smith to a long term extension, they draft Justin Durant, a great talent at linebacker in the second round. Is the writing on the wall that Mike Peterson may be moving out of his familiar middle linebacker position, and maybe in a year or two, no longer be on the team?

VS: Well who knows in a year or two, football's a one year at a time game, but he's back at middle linebacker in the offseason, and I think they're comfortable with him there, although in their scheme, the linebackers are almost interchangeable, so it's not that big. It's not like **** Butkus or Jack Lambert playing middle linebacker. When Mike Peterson got hurt, Daryl Smith just moved in there and didn't miss a beat, although they did kind of fade at the end of the year.

There's no guarantee that Peterson will be there in 2008, but barring a new injury, he looks safe to recommend as a potential LB1 for 2007.

I must admit that the only people who thought anything else besides this outcome, were Dayrl Smith owners. Anyone who knew anything about JAX or listened to any of the interviews of their players all heard them talk about what a LEADER Mike Peterson was to this team. He gives them direction and commands the defensive side of the ball! Glad this tid bit is put to rest...

 For the record, Peterson took every snap today at the Mike spot. If healthy, he immediately becomes the SOD of some drafts I've seen.

You just don't want me to report you too. Seriously, if the news is fresh, and the old topic is now poorly titled, I prefer a new topic.
:goodposting: The same point was made about Demorrio Williams. The original news was he was going to be out 5 months, now the news is that he is ready to go already. That kind of stuff definitely should have a separate thread, and hopefully the old thread isn't used anymore.

hold on boss... this own site Depth Charts had D Smith listed as the MLB and Peterson WLB... which lead me to believe that D Smith was the MLB when I did my dynasty draft.

This was a tough one.I had an email exchange with Bob Henry in April discussing these two. I think both of us felt Peterson would end up at MLB, but all the local speculation, including that of Vic Ketchman, was that Smith would stay in the middle. Hence the (M/W) designation hedges until recently.

:goodposting: after smith signed, the speculation was definitely that he was going to stay in the middle after finishing the 2006 season there.

LOL, no  here! :goodposting:

I don't know where that info came from, but clearly every interview of a JAX player stated that it was a HUGE loss that Mike Peterson went out injured. They would say that he is THE leader for that side of the ball.

When so many players chime in that way and nothing is ever commented by the coaches specifically...it's pure speculation by a writer or FF nuts.

Sometimes you gotta use the head and not a depth chart.
