Mike Peterson Injured (1 Viewer)

Mike got his right leg rolled into by another Jag while trying to make a tackle. He kind of grabbed at it, but stayed on the field for the next play and stuffed Alstott. They called it a knee sprain during the telecast. Hopefully he will be fine. Looks primed for another monster year as he was all over the field before he came out.

Early word is sprained MCL, probably miss season opener.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars probably will have to start the season without leading tackler Mike Peterson.

The team's middle linebacker and emotional leader sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee Saturday night against Tampa Bay and likely won't be ready for the season opener Sept. 10 against Dallas.

Peterson led the team in tackles during each of his first three seasons in Jacksonville. He had a career-high 190 tackles and six sacks last year. He also had three interceptions, including one for a touchdown.

Peterson hurt his knee on Tampa Bay's opening drive. He left the game, went to the locker room for tests and did not return. He walked out of the stadium on crutches, but was clearly disappointed.

"I don't know, man," Peterson said when asked about his return. "I don't know."

I hate MCL injuries. Players rarely return to the field earlier than expected. This type of an injury seems to drag and drag.

Peterson will probably be "questionable" for Weeks 2-4.

Looks like someone is in trouble for week 3. If you are lucky, I may not start Michael Koenen against you.RAPTURE

You have not beat me this century. I highly doubt Koenen can save you. Just like what Mom always told you...some people are blessed with extraordinary abilities, while others are named Dustin. :D

As a Jag's :homer: i hope he'll be back for the opener, but if he does have to miss time, Daryl Smith just might shift inside (had been rumored for quite some time) and we may see a committee backer at the position he vacated. Griesen will be starting on the other side.

The reason Im not saying SLB or WLB is because frankly, the Jagars' defense is far too complex to nail down. If I had to give it concrete terms, there would be a committee at WLB and Griesen would be starting at SLB. Two straight solid preseason games for griesen.

From the Jags website:

"Middle linebacker Mike Peterson and backup running back Greg Jones each sustained sprained knees, but Del Rio said the news was encouraging and that he expects both players to be ready to play in the season opener against visiting Dallas."

Not sure if Jack is just putting a positive spin on, but this is a little different than the previous report.

After Peterson left, it looked like D.Smith was manning the middle. Hopefully next game will give us more info as they mess around with lineups this week in practice.

I agree too that he hurt it and then played a couple more snaps. I had read he got hurt before watching the dvr'ed game and was watching for it. When he was rolled up on, I really thought that was it, but he stayed it. Then a few plays later the announcers mentioned he was done for the game with a knee injury. The roll up didn't look pretty, as he was hit on the side of the leg low. But as with the Greg Jones injury, if his foot wasn't planted, it could have saved him from a more serious injury. The view was tough to see and they didn't show any closeup replays.

Aug 26 The Associated Press reports Jacksonville Jaguars LB Mike Peterson (knee) has sprained his MCL and will likely not be ready for the regular-season opener Sept. 10. He hurt his knee during the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 26, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He left the game to have tests taken and was seen walking out of the stadium on crutches.

Michael C. Wright, of the Florida Times-Union, reports an MRI on Jacksonville Jaguars LB Mike Peterson's (knee) right knee revealed a sprain, and Peterson could return for the season opener Sept. 10.

As an owner, honestly, I hope he rests it long enough to be 100% before taking the field.

Just listened to a Mike Peterson press conference from today. He said this is the third time he has had this injury and that the other two times were both worse. He said he knows what he is dealing with and that he will be on the field Sunday. Sounded pretty promising.
