Mike Thomas conflicting rankings (1 Viewer)

Confused by the conflicting rankings I'm seeing for Mike Thomas on the FGB's site and wondering if anyone else has noticed this. He's sitting out there on my waiver wire in a 10 team league I'm in otherwise I wouldn't think twice about it.

In the most recent top 250 forward list (standard FGB scoring/non PPR), Thomas is listed as WR33 to Sims-Walker WR34.

Yet, when you look at the upgrades/downgrades report, this blurb is listed for Sims-Walker : "He remains the top Jaguar receiver and should be considered as such. " No surprise here.

And when you hit the cheatsheets for Wk2, Sims-Walkers is listed 18 spots ahead of Thomas. Again, as suspected - Bailey won't be covering MSW every game.

In conclusion, the top 250 list has issues. Cue the replies of the "Thomas is on your waiver wire? What kind of crap league are you in?" variety.

Thomas' upside comes from the fact he will be catching the ball a lot of times. I can easily see him being on waivers in non-ppr. Unless it's dynasty because this guy has chemistry with Garrard and has potential to become a true monster.

Pretty much in non-ppr I'd avoid, he's not really the red-zone threat. This year I see him racking in about 4 touchdowns all year. Not a knock on his talent it's just that MJD, Lewis, and Walker are the primary options.

Really just got to be smart when you play him and you'll be fine. MSW has a habit putting on a disappearing act; figure out when that's going to be and you've got gold.

(PPR he's a must-start however.)

Maybe they think Thomas will get better as the year goes on and pass MSW as the top WR in JAX...but he's just not there yet

MSW is their top receiver. As such, he will often draw the opponents' best defenders, and perhaps they are projecting that as a result, Thomas will have more fantasy points by the end of the year. They have them separated by 3 points for the rest of the season, and the margin of error on their projections is clearly higher than that, so take those rankings with a grain of salt. If you're asking whether you should drop MSW to pick up Thomas, I'd probably advise against it. Otherwise I don't see what the big deal is.

Is there enough "air time" within the Jags offense, to make Mike Thomas in a PPR redraft format a better play than other Week 1 WR WW favorites like Brandon Lloyd and Mark Clayton??

No, not a MSW owner but I have a couple of receivers in M Clayton and J Gaffney that FBG ranks considerably lower than Thomas and I'm just not seeing it. When I saw Sims-Walker ranked right below Thomas, it stood out to me even more they may have goofed on this one.Not a big deal, Ignoratio - just killing work time in the Shark Pool here....

Agree with previous post. The rankings and projections are information. Make your decisions based on them and your opinions. Any ranking that is obviously contrary to your position consider as an opportunity to school another owner in your league that may follow the guidance to the letter.

No reason to continually dredge complaint threads here as no football is discussed.

I agree with most of what you said. But I don't think it matter one bit in dynasty leagues what his chemistry is with Garrard.

Take a similar situation, like Hakeem Nicks and Steve Smith for the NYFG. Which of the two will have a better Week 2? Which will have a better Week 3 - Week 16? Tough call after just one game.

This is the answer. The ranks are compilations of many writers, but I BELIEVE the upgrade/downgrade is just one or two writers. Either way, it resonates how close the two are. Considering where Sims-Walker was drafted and where Thomas was drafted (or not even at all in your league), Thomas is certainly the better buy here. If you are choosing between Clayton and Thomas, I may go Clayton, but I still think Thomas will provide good numbers on the year and much more consistent than someone like Lloyd.
