edgar thompson tweet that Lemon was in NE Friday. He and Vick are almost identical twins so I could see how someone mixed the two QBs up. :football:
Yep...I heard they were not sure at first if it was Michael Bishop, Jim Rice or Michael Vick, but guessed Vick due to all the hype and all.

I will be surprised if Vick DOESN'T end up on the pats. Brady is on the mend and his backup is unproven (sound familiar). A least with Vick there BB has a hedge if brady gets hurt and the #2 is not as good as advertised.

I wish the phins had the stones to take vick. Truth be told, a team with Balls needs to make this move. There really are too many sheep GM guys in the NFL.

And then along comes THE model franchise of the league and considers bringing in a guy who all the other teams were too "moral" to sign.
Model franchise? You can't be serious.
Love them or hate them, no NFL team has been more successful in the salary cap era than the Patriots. It's not even close.
I think the Steelers are close. They're not AS successful, but they're close.

When was salary cap implemented?

I dunno. I figure since it's the Pats, he was talking about this century.

What is sad is that Vick did more time than Donte Stallworth will do and he killed a human being
Thanks for pointing this out - no one had mentioned that before.

It started in 1994, but I believe it was a "soft" start (i.e. possibly teams could go over by X percent w/o penalty for the first few years). IIRC, SF famously milked this policy until the end and therefor hit a rough period (I believe they were hamstrung by the cap for some time in the real late 90s and early 2000s.

Cap was 1994Super Bowl Wins since:

Dallas Cowboys: 2

Denver Broncos: 2

New England Patriots: 3

Pittsburgh Steelers: 2

Straight championships, PATS have the most. Win-loss I think we would need to check also to determine for sure

I'm betting in terms of win/loss, it's the Pats and Steelers. Also in terms of playoff record. Probably Indianapolis is in third place.

Per ESPN:

The New England Patriots, in the market for a backup quarterback, have worked out NFL veteran Cleo Lemon and are expected to sign him Saturday.

Lemon was the quarterback who had a mid-afternoon workout Friday. There had been reports the Patriots worked out Michael Vick, but Lemon was the quarterback who was on the field throwing with front office people watching. Vick was in Virginia at a bankruptcy court hearing.

The Patriots were in contract talks with Lemon on Saturday afternoon.

A Lemon signing could mean the Patriots won't bring in Vick. Coach Bill Bilichick didn't rule out interest in Vick, but he also wouldn't say they were interested on Friday.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft had this to say regarding signing Vick on Sirius Radio Saturday: "For us that's an academic problem because we've got the No. 1 player at that position [quarterback] in the world as far as I'm concerned. Why would ever want to do anything that would take him off the field for one play?"

Lemon is a 29-year-old veteran who has played for the Ravens, Chargers, Dolphins and Jaguars.

Patriots owner douses speculation that team is pursuing Michael Vick

USA TODAY

Patriots owner Robert Kraft failed to fuel the Michael Vick-to-New England rumors t today in an appearance on Sirius satellite radio.

Kraft, asked about his interest in signing Vick, said the team values QB Tom Brady immensely.

“For us, that’s an academic problem,” Kraft told Sirius. “Because we’ve got the number one player in the world at that position, as far as I’m concerned. Why would we want do anything that would take (Brady) off the field for one play?“

On Thursday and Friday, Patriots coach Bill Belichick was evasive when asked about the team's interest in Vick.

"Have we ruled it out?" Belichick said Friday. "I don't know that it's ruled in or ruled out. I don't think it's ever been put that way, so I can't answer that."

Team spokesman Stacey James said the Patriots did not host Vick in Foxborough for a workout on Friday, despite what had been reported in the Miami Herald.
