Miles Austin (1 Viewer)

Lets say there's an injury or two to Roy or Crayton/Austin (which seems pretty likely through out the course of the season), what does Sam Hurd have? I don't know much on him but he had that high ankle sprain last preseason I think. He's way under the radar right now, but is there anything to even keep an eye on here or no?

Roy is not the most durable guy it seems and you just know things get thinned out after a while. There's not many clips on him out there except for all his Sam Cam clips????

For me it was Hurd>Austin last summer and going into pre season and I think Hurd was ahead of Austin. I'm not a homer so could be wrong, but that's what I recall. Obviously it Austin>Crayton>Hurd now.

Yeah, Hurd ran into some injuries and Austin stepped up and played pretty well. Austin showed improved hands and route running which had not been the best the prior year. I think Crayton is the better receiver then Austin, but they have different skill sets. Austin has the jets and will play the Flanker spot (Technically the WR2) to stretch the field vertically and Crayton is well suited for the slot. He'll catch the possession stuff. In formations featuring only 2 WR's I would expect Crayton on the field, NOT Austin.

Hurd was ahead of Austin in years 1 and 2 on the roster. In fact, coming into the season last year, I thought Austin's roster spot was in jeopardy. But Austin, much like many other receivers, really came on in his third year and put it together. He passed both Hurd and Crayton during this past year. But injuries sidelined him some. I actually expect he'll start opposite Roy Williams next year. I think Bankerguy and I disagree on that assessment.Another area that Bankerguy and I disagree is on Stanback. I feel its not unlikely that Stanback comes on in his 3rd year, which is next season. Stanback and Austin are not dissimilar guys in stature. I've noticed it takes the bigger guys like Stanback and Austin longer to learn to play in the NFL than the smaller, quick guys. But its easier to see the athleticism with Stanback than it was with Austin. I'm eager to see what he comes up with next season.

Good post Ridge. (Both Stanback and Austin fought injuries)On Crayton, I am just basing the 2 WR set based on what I saw last year. Which was TO and Crayton (Prior to Roy 11) in the 2 WR sets. On 3 WR sets Crayton moved to the slot and Austin would take the flanker spot opposite TO who held down the X. As far as Stanback goes, Ridge and I do have slightly different expectatons. I have nothing against the guy, in fact he seems like a good hard working kid. He got a lot of hype from one of his pre season games when he made a nice TD catch against some 3/4th stringers. The next day I remember a lot of fans going crazy over it. I just don't see the production from his limited time and exposure in the NFL. Also, I don't see any other indication that he has the talent to really make an impact. He was a fourth round project pick that hasn't materialized as of yet. I'll be happy to say I am wrong if he starts to light it up. honestly, nothing would make me happier.

As an Austin owner, i think i'd prefer him going to NYJ. He'd easily be the #2 WR. Keller and Cotchery would be his only competition for targets and the jets are less of a run first team than the 2009 Cowboys will be.

Only con would be that instead of Romo passing him the ball, he'll have Clemens or Ratliff throwing him the ball. On 2nd thought...stay in Dallas lol.
