Mini Camcorders - like the Flip brand (1 Viewer)

Any experience for anyone? Would like something like this to use to record the grandson's soccer game. I am thinking they may not be good for sports.

Would appreciate any advice - an under $200 preferred - and cheaper is better.

Looking to record an hour sporting event and not burn out the phone. There still appears to be a market for the Flip brand.

With the the rechargers this doesn't seem to be an issue. Is Flip still around? The battery has issues. I keep mine around just in case but it will probably hit the recycling bin soon.

This makes more sense if you are worried about battery life...

... but really are you sure you wouldn't be better off with a point-and-shoot camera with an optical zoom and a monopod?
Don't mean to hijack but looking to pick up a cheapish video cam for filming basketball games. Any advice greatly appreciated. Season starts end of Sept and have a courier coming in 4 weeks.

I haven't recorded either sport but just in terms of photography soccer is outdoors during the day on a huge field - which lends itself to a small sensor and long zoom. Basketball is indoors, smaller court, but HORRIBLE lighting so make sure you factor that into your decision on equipment. The zoom is less important depending on where you can shoot from. Ideally you can shoot from above the court on a tripod and only need a moderate zoom but gyms are laid out differently. Also, keep in mind a monopod/tripod on shaking bleachers defeat the purpose.
