MINN D (1 Viewer)

I picked MINN D in the later rounds of my draft and held on to them while I played Seattle (drooped during their bye week) thinking they would come around. Just curious, have other owners given up on them?

Also are there any sleeper D's out there worth considering in place of them?

 Maybe they are not performing up to expectations, but they are ranked 10th and 11th after the first 4 weeks in my two leagues so they are still starting caliber in all but the smallest leagues.Something on your wire better than that?

So far this season mirrors last season for the Vikings. Unless GB and Chi go on some unforeseen tear and run away with this division (I dont think they will), then Minnesota will continue to be in the race despite struggling early.

I think their D will regress to the mean, they will cause plenty of turnovers at home, and their FF Playoff schedule makes them a table pounding buy at this point. @ Det, @ Ari, Atl

I just dropped Tampa last week, and kept Minny since they are the top D. After this crappy performance I am considering grabbing Bills D who just hit the ww in my 10 team. I really hate having 2 defenses, but that's also an option...

:goodposting: It's all about matchups for the Defenses, and I am sure plenty of you sharks are headed for the playoffs, so don't give up on them just yet.

Consideration isn't needed. I highly doubt a league exists where BUF's D wouldn't be in the top 10 right now, not to mention on the WW.

One of my teams would have won if I'd started TB instead of MIN at D. Argh.

That league has a weird scoring system that makes D more valuable than in conventional leagues.

I typically only carry 1 D and had Minny to start the season. After week 2 I saw Tennessee on the waiver wire and grabbed them. Glad I did. Haven't dumped Minny yet, but I'm definitely considering it.

They had a lame duck CB(Griffin) this weekend that more often than not gave up a decent gainer to the Titans. They have to plug that hole. They seem real good outside of that.

Tampa has a defensive touchdown in it's last 3 games.
3 of last 4, didn't have one against Atlanta. About the only thing they didn't have. Hey, I gotta find something good outta that game.

Pats, and Seattle. New Orleans D hasn't been spectacular but they've been consistent. I'm also wondering if Washington's D will come around too the way their O is beginning to play.

Well, consideration is needed seeing as Tampa may also be sitting there now  and in two different leagues (pretty different D scoring) TB is the #3 defense. Minny isn't even close to Tampa, in fact, they have about half the points in both formats.

Yes, seriously... What leagues are some of you guys playing in....BUF D on waivers??? The OP picked up top-rated MIN D "late in the draft???" MIN was the first D off the board in both of my money leagues, way earlier than I'm willing to drop a pick on that position (like 6th or 7th rd). BUF D was also highly rated, should have had the highest score in any format week 1, and had a gravy match up this week against STL. Why would they be on the WW? MIN D is off to a rough start, but as mentioned they have a great playoff schedule and are worth hanging onto. BUF D is also certainly worth a roster spot. So is TB D for that matter. I wish I had these problems. In one league, I need a bye week cover for BUF & there's nothing but garbage available on waivers...

I got -2 pts from Minn D in the ffoc league.

Starting the Jags D until further notice.

The answer, of course, is to start up IDP in your leagues :wall: It's great!

Honestly, though, Minn DST is a great unit. I owned them before our league switched to IDP. The addition of Allen will only improve things, despite his slow start. They've got a stellar DLine, a very good MLB, and a ball-hawking secondary (that unfortunately does give up a ton of passing yards). They have an uncanny propensity for scoring defensive TDs. I wouldn't give up on them.

OK I exaggerated because I should have known better than take them when I did during the draft. I drafted MIN D in the 8th round of a 14 round draft. But I said late because CHI, Chargers (6th and 7th round) and one or two others went before I took MINN.I just HATE to carry two D's if I can avoid it but I can't live with MINN right now, their production was miserable and I thought against Collins they would perform better than that. Pats are going up against 9ers and now I'm wondering if I should just play the match ups every week and just drop them.I generally don't play matchups but from what I've read on here, other owners give rave reviews it's the way to go.

If your in a league with 14 man rosters, there probably aren't too many guys carrying 2 Ds. Playing weekly matchups is probably the best way to go in that scenario, especially if the likes of BUF, TB & NE are all on waivers right now. Considering how rough a start MIN is off to, it's pretty unlikely they'll get snatched right up of waivers anyway in your situation.

Yeah gotta agree with you, but believe or not there are a few guys carry two 2 Ds right now. BUF and TB are taken but SEA and NE are available right now.I'm trying to grab a good D fro the next 2 weeks and not carry two because a few owners who are carrying only one D have their byeweek in week 6 (TENN, BUF, PIT).I like Pats this week again SAN FRAN but not in week 6 against the Chargers, but MINN has the Lions...trying not to drop anyone but may have too.In my League's scoring D's can make or break you.

Unless your rosters are really limited or you have a defense that currently puts you in the top 1/4 of the league at that position, I think running with two D;s is almost necessary (or you can try picking one up for 1-2 weeks and switching it up). The team defense position is more about matchups than most other positions and leaving a sweet matchup on the WW is like leaving a gift of a bonus starter for your opponent. The most important thing is to figure out the average score at the position based on your scoring rules for a given week and see how much the highest/lowest scores made a difference for teams in your league. If the difference isn't that great, then you're probably overthinking one D vs. another.

The bigger thing is, if the Buffalo D has been sitting out there after a number of solid performances, it's likely the Minn D will also sit for a while and you can always pick it back up later if it starts looking attractive.

Agree that with limited rosters you should just be carrying one - and suggest strongly the OP consider the Top DST to play

1) whichever team is playing AZ - notice Jets DST score yesterday?

2) whichever team is playing STL

...and a further positive by product of you dropping Minnie is that someone in your league will pick them up - meaning either they have to drop a useful DST to the pool or a position player that may have some value.

Great points guys and thanks!

Vikings are 17th and 15th in my 2 leagues in average ppg after 4 weeks.
