I'm just curious as to how different leagues that have minor league rosters manage them.
In the AL-only and NL-only leagues I play, we do this:
* When the league started a couple of years back, each team drafted 10 minor league prospects. Anyone with under 130 major league at bats or 50 IP were fair game, including Japanese players (Johjima, etc).
* Prospects stay in your system until they lose rookie eligibility or you decide to cut them. You can't sign prospects as free agents during the season but each year you can purge your minor league roster and there is an annual draft in March where owners reload back to the original 10.
* We have kind of a complex contract system, but, for sake of discussion, we allow owners to retain their homegrown players at a discounted price for several years until they go into the general free agent pool. The point is to reward our league owners for building from within.
