I am fairly new to the dynasty thing and am trying to figure out trade values of the bottom of tier 1 or top of tier 2 Running Backs like MJD.

You should be able to get a decent haul for him. But you may wanna hold on to him for atleast one more year or two if you can't get what you'd like in return. Look what Mularkey did for Michael Turner. Turner and MJD are similar in that they weren't used extensively in their first few years. So MJD, who will turn 27 before the start of the 2012 season should be good for atleast 2 more years under Mularkey. The offense can only get better only helping MJD.

Perception amongst my league mates is not good. They think he's on borrowed time with the knees and his recent workloads. My guess is that his best value to his current owner lies in plugging him into your lineup every week.

I am actually trying to get MJD or a simular RB. I didn't want to get into the details of my team as this wouldn't be the correct forum. I am just trying gague the value of a RB at this level and see if there have been any recent trades that I could use as a referance.

I do have a post with details on the Assitant Coach Forum and would love your advice Details of Trade Offers

I haven't seen any recent trades involving MJD. I think he is kind of a wait and see for a lot of owners due to his recent history. But I am a Jags fan and I own MJD in several leagues.I think he could get several rookie picks and a decent player in return. Or perhaps a #1 WR and a pick depending on what each owner needs. Hard to say right now. But I certainly wouldn't give him away. If you think MJD can help your team win this year and perhpas next year, it all depends on what you are willing to give up. Personally, I think he is worth a decent amount. Someone MIGHT be willing to give up two 1st round rookie picks, but it may be hard.

I traded FOR him last offseason. Gave up a decent amount for him, but he came through. Deciding whether I want to ride him out for another 1-3 years that he will likely stay healthy

and productive. This league in particular is a TD-only league, so it's much harder to gauge, in my opinion.

He has 1,500 carries in his career and questions about his knee holding up longterm.

This is classic sell time if he can bring in decent value. Better to be a day early then a day late.

here we go again. all offseason last year, we heard how he was washed up and wasn't going to be any good after he got his knees repaired. well i thought he silenced his critics, but apparently not. people will keep predicting this until they are finally correct and then point to it.

i wouldn't move him for less then at least an early 1st this year and another 1st next year. he is a top 8 dynasty fantasy ppr back.

I agree that he its still a to 8 RB and an looking at getting him in a trade. I have a very strong WR core in A.Johnson, Nicks and R. White with a bunch of mid range RBs. Do I trade one of them for MJD or am I giving up too much?

:goodposting: Obviously there is going to come a time where the wheels fall off, and people will be pulling out the "I told you so" card when it does, but anyone who sold him last offseason should be kicking themselves. The problem with trying to deal him now is that pretty much everyone thinks the same way- they won't give up a lot for him because he "has" to decline. Unless someone is willing to give up fair value, he's one of those guys who you are probably going to be better off holding onto and hoping for 2-4 more very good years. 1500 carries is a lot, but it isn't necessarily too many- LT was very productive up until almost 3000.

If I were you, I'd be more willing to give up Roddy White. Age and the presence of Julio are against him. Plus they lost their OC.See if he'll take Roddy straight up or throw in one of your average RB's if that can seal the deal. If he's as low as a lot of people are on MJD you may be able to get him for a decent price.

Very difficult guy to trade around because of the factors around him. I think this is sell time for owners though. I don't like backs with lots of carries suddenly having their coaching system change. Time and time again, it just seems like that always hurts them for that first year and then if the back is older the teams seem like they want to get the next young guy in, etc. Just seems hard to keep on keepin' on when its this type of scenario.

On of my teams where I wanted to rebuild, I offered MJD for a top 2 pick and was rejected. I am amazed how much rookie picks are over valued when you have a proven stud staring you in the face on your trade desk and you turn it down in hopes that your rookie pick lands a better player.

On coaching changes, this seems to be the exception then. Del Rio did not do much for MJD if you ask me.I think Mularkey is a step in the right direction, and given the QB situation, Mularkey will have to use him pretty extensively.I am leery of the knee, but it held up well, and I think his value will not depreciate too much from now, until next offseason.I think he's still a hold, unless you get a WOW offer. What that is, is up for debate.

Depends on the teams owning the 2nd pick? if they are one player away, sure, you pull the trigger, but most teams owning a top pick are bad bc of multiple holes. and MJD-while still a great value, has less years left, than what he has put in most likely.

Did you at least tell him how awesome MJD is and how worthless the 1.02 pick is?

MJD had a big cap # in my league, so I basically had 48 hours to trade him last year (from the team in sig).

Got a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for him. Should have been early pick, but team snuck into the playoffs with 8th most points... and won the whole thing.

In dynasty, it's not so much about the player you're trying to peddle, but the teams you're trying to peddle him to.

Jones-drew to a team that just went 3-10 holds very little value. You'd be lucky to get much more than their first rounder in my opinion (which is probably a high pick). They're not one player away and when it's time for this team to be good, Jones-drew will be old news.

To a 7-6 team, you get a little more. Maybe they feel they're a RB away from 10 wins and a title run. From them, you probably get a 1st rounder, and a few younger but highly thought of players.

To the Championship runner-up team, Jones-drew is worth the most. Who couldn't use the rushing champ when they were so close to the title. The only problem here is they likely have the 2nd to last rookie pick in round 1 and that's not really a great pick. In this case, you have to hope he has maybe two top 10 QBs or a large amount of WRs or even something like having both Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham which I could easily see being the case and build deals around players.

Anyway, trading isn't so much about the player as it is the teams that might want him and what they can give in return. Also you're almost always not going to get top value for studs - its just the way it goes. Every time I trade a top player, I get prepared for the Emails saying "if I had known you were going to give him away, I would have made an offer!" I'd say 75% of the time though, I end up with exactly what I wanted and I'm content with it.

Also buying low and selling high seems to elude most people, they'd rather go after studs right after big years and it rarely works out. You have to take a gamble and be willing to risk losing out on a big producer to net two in return sometimes. Two examples I have - About 5 years ago, I had Shaun Alexander and Larry Johnson. I had won a title the previous year, but knew time was running out. I traded Johnson for Deangelo WIlliams and Greg Jennings (both of whom had yet to hit their stride) but held onto Alexander thinking I had another year or two. Well, I killed it on the one deal and ended up cutting Alexander 10 months later because he was done. I didn't pull the trigger and wasted an opportunity to get some decent players.

It's a gamble.

I traded

McFadden

Peyton Manning

for

Roethlisberger

MJD

in week 8 of last season. At the time McFadden had sat out a game but the extent of his injury was underestimated by both of us. Obviously the trade worked out for me short-term (the trade helped carry me to 3rd place), feel OK about it long-term.

PPR 12 team dynasty

Team A gave: MJD, 2.6, 3.6

Team B gave: Julio Jones, 1.5, 2.5

Both teams are middle of the road contenders. Team A is loaded at RB(DMC, Mathews, MJD, Gore, Blount, Gerhart) and Team B is loaded at WR(Julio Jones, Wallace, Vincent Jackson, Desean Jackson, Gaffney, Breaston).

benson, you in that league?

It's worth remembering that Rashad Jennings will be back next year and MJD isn't likely to carry as much of the load as he did this year. Of course that could be easily offset if the overall offense improves and produces more scores.

Someone gave up Julio Jones AND 1.05 for MJD in a PPR dynasty league? Wow, awful trade.

Was loaded.

Price check on MJD? 3rd round rookie pick do the trick?
He's now 29, supposedly 2nd on the depth chart to McFadden (though that's probably unsettled). Based on the half dozen rookie drafts I've been in so far this year, there's decent value still through about mid-3rd round or later before people start reaching. I'd say if you pay a very late 3rd and are looking for immediate short term help at RB that might be reasonable, but I wouldn't pay an early 3rd. Too much potentially useful talent this year at that point, and MJD's situation, age, injury history make him an iffy acquisition. Remember too that he's on a bad team with perhaps the toughest schedule, including not only DEN/KC/SD twice but games against the four defenses of the NFC West.

This was kills me. Got a little use out of him, but because of age + regression I ended up bundling him up in another trade mid-season last year for McCoy. MJD was more like a throw in. Glad I got SOME value for him in the end.

Personally, I would rather have JStew than him, if that gives any sort of indication of his value.

I don't like Oakland's offense and I suspect he and McFadden will be full bore RBBC.
