I hate the way closers are coddled these days, but it really is amazing how different Kimbrel pitches when it isn't "start the ninth in a save situation." Doesn't matter if he comes in to finish the eighth, pitches in a tie game, whatever. He's just a different guy.

Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo both should have been in this game, but the one player per team rule prevented that. Fine with that but you could have picked those guys over almost any of the reserves without question.

Guess you have to give Maddon some credit for not being a homer, but guys like Jay Bruce and Anthony Rendon were left off roster also so the NL was stacked.
First time ever that the defending World Series champion didn't have a player from that roster make the All-Star Game the next season.
