More of Moore? (1 Viewer)

Matt Moore: 19-27 for 208 yards yesterday. Steve Smith 8 catches for 72 yards.

Looks like Moore is looking for him (more than David Carr did). But it seems to be short patterns ands short gains. I guess we used to see him break the short ones into long ones and going deep too.

Anyone watch the game?? Did they go long to him at all.

Was he close to breaking any??

Do you think he's a good option the last couple of games now with Moore?? Dallas next week at home.

He has been a torturous play since Delhomme went down. It's like you almost have to play him waiting for an explosion but we have not had much at all in weeks.

Moore did a good job of getting the ball to Smith on short and intermediate routes. The deep balls are just gone so I don't think Smith will strike for a big play downfield again until next season. I'm still mystified as to how WRs who are considerably less talented and also playing with suspect QBs can score touchdowns but Smith can't. But I digress.

There was one drive late in yesterday's game where Moore got the ball to Smith repeatedly. Smith really played with fire too so I think he was feeling good about the ball getting to him so often. I posted in the other Moore-Smith thread that in PPR leagues Smith has become a viable WR3 for the past month. He's had at least 5 receptions in each of his last five games and caught 8 passes yesterday. Again, there's not much upside given his complete inability to get into the end zone or produce standout yardage totals. But if 5+ receptions and 50+ yards will get it done for you as a WR3 I think Smith is worse considering. I don't see the Panthers running well on Dallas next Saturday so Smith should be in line for a steady diet of targets again.

In a start-2 WR league I don't think you can go anywhere near him - even in a PPR league. And in standard scoring leagues I don't think Smith is worth considering given he isn't getting huge yardage totals and he's incapable of scoring. But as a WR3 in PPR leagues I think he's worth considering if your top two WRs are strong. I don't see much downside for Smith given his recent production. The receptions have been consistent so in a PPR league he's a viable WR3 in my opinion.

Moore missed Smith on a couple early routes and Smith gave him an earful for it. After that Moore seemed to settle down and played a solid, if unspectacular game.

my favorite thing about Moore happened during the 2nd carolina-new orleans game. chris carr was embarrassing himself on the field...

The fans turned on Carr and the Panthers quickly. After Carr's third-down pass was batted down near the end zone, John Kasay kicked a 29-yard field goal to cut the halftime deficit to 10-6.

But not before fans started chanted "We want Moore."

"It's not like we were purposely trying to not score points," Carr said. "They were chanting 'More' -- that they wanted more points. And we were trying to give it to them."
Uh, yeah, David they meant more points....

:lmao: I would add this with regards to his "limited upside": Smith has always been a guy who was phenomenal with his run-after-catch. I still think he is fully capable to breaking a long TD off a short or intermediate route by running over a poor-tackling corner and beating a safety with speed. I'm rooting for it anyway. I think he is about due to break one based on the number of touches he is getting now. Then his 6-8 catches will give him over 100 yards and a TD. What do you think of his matchup with Dallas this week and TB in week 17? Can Moore get him the ball that many times again against the Cowboys and/or Bucs?

you think i'm kidding? AP article and wrap up of the game...

first let me say matt moore did a great job to gut out a panther win. the wind was blowing hard the entire game, it was evident that passing was not easy.

i have watched every panther game this year and i had smith in one league. i benched him and would continue to bench him now. no way you risk your playoff or superbowl life on a 4th string QB.
