So the guy isn't a radical Muslim? Just a depressed loser?

It's starting to sound like he was a depressed loser who was radicalized recently and quickly.  A couple different signs pointing to this:

What is known publicly about Bouhlel so far suggests a troubled, angry man with little interest in the group's ultra-puritanical brand of Islam. But, in a statement to reporters, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve hinted that Bouhlel may have had a last-minute adoption of a more extremist worldview.

"It seems he was radicalized very quickly," Cazeneuve said following a ministerial meeting at the Elysee Palace in Paris.

Unknown. It might be the sort of thing where those close to him knew his plans and did not say anything. Or maybe he had help. There were a lot weapons in the truck IIRC.

"God is great"  Now I am going to run over 250 people with a truck and get my body riddled with 100 bullets...but God is great.  How can you even make sense of that ideology? How can any sane muslim accept this?

The average person, anywhere in this world, wants the same things we do.

So far many ISIS attacks in Europe were carried out by men who had spent time in jail.  Looks like their prisons are Universities of Jihad for terrorist recruitment.

It is a religious belief.

Just like them, you would believe it too had you been born and raised in those parts of the world.  Likewise, those same people would not believe in Sharia law if they were born and raised here.

Those same people want the same basic things you do, you are each just jaded by different religious influences.

Like I said to the other guy... go out and talk to some Muslims in your neighborhood or town, even the ones that might want Sharia law are no different in any meaningful way than you or I.  They want a good life for themselves and their families, peace, and freedoms (maybe different freedoms than you, but then our own country doesn't agree on what freedoms we should and shouldn't have).... and most everything else we hope for.

The OP topic question asked if it were an act of terrorism and everyone is in agreement that it was, including Obama and the President of France.

To be clear by Bible you mean the old Old Testament, the very, very old Testament, not all or most of it at all. Yes Christians incorporate it. I'm also not sure Bhuda or Hindu canon have this at all. Point just being it's not an absolute component of human religious belief.

For a lot of these perpetrators ... I am thinking that "Allahu akbar!" has no more personal meaning than something like "Geronimo!" or "Yee-haw!". IMHO, those all fall into the category of "things people yell out before sudden burst of action" ... not sincere pronouncements of religious devotion.

I wonder who it was that started the "Guess we gotta ban trucks now" things? What is the point of that particular barb?

I've seen it spouted out here and there, and not by people who are deep political thinkers. The meme (if it is one) seems to be just getting passed around thoughtlessly.
