Moritz Böhringer, WR Bengals - Taming the Stripes like Sigfried and Roy! (1 Viewer)

I don't see any way that he makes the team unless the Vikings trade away a WR to make room for him.

Even then he might not make it if the Vikings only keep 5 WR which Zimmer indicated last season, he would prefer to only have 5 WR so that extra spot could be used on a defensive player.

In this case the Vikings have a lot of offensive linemen and would likely prefer to keep one of them over a 6th WR as well.

Injuries haven't happened yet, either to the Vikings or to someone else that might come offer a pick for a bubble guy like Johnson.  I don't think he'll make it to the PS if they waive him.

ESPN 1500 Twin Cities believes sixth-round WR Moritz Bohringer is on the "outside looking in" for a roster spot.
ESPN's Ben Goessling agrees, saying Bohringer will likely begin his career on the practice squad. Bohringer himself said he is struggling with the "mental" side of the game, and he reportedly dealt with drops in the offseason program. He has the physical upside to be an offensive weapon, but Bohringer has a long way to go.

Looks like the latest overseas "kickalicious" type prospect has run his course. This isn't "the air up there", jimmy Dolan isn't recruiting for the nfl now, and another long shot has fallen short.

Might be a little early to stick a fork in him. Maybe he'll make the PS which is what was projected from the beginning.

The interest to work seems real enough, but he did seem quite cocky..

Hopefully this is just the thing he needs to get crackin

Safe to say teams should consider a 2nd look

Im almost certain, hell be in a camp next Season

No playing time in preseason to hide him from other teams so they can sneak onto practice squad?

I think it's one of two things: either he's REALLY bad to the point where it would be an embarrassment to play him, or they like him but think he's far too raw to be on the active roster, so they've been holding him out of games to keep him from putting anything on film and attracting any interest. I have him on quite a few dynasty teams and will hold him to see what happens over the next couple weeks before I cut bait.

Moritz did play briefly in the 4th preseason game. 17 snaps 25% the plays. I am pretty sure these were at the end of the game. He had no targets.

It's such a massive jump, a season on the PS seems fair.

To think the Vikings were hiding him from other teams....come on now.

I think it's 50/50 he even gets the PS. Lot of free agents they have gotten real coaching the last few years that are probably light years ahead of him.

He's got the nfl body but it takes a lot more than that. Maybe he makes the psquad but it seems like even in deep dynasty it's going to take a couple years. Probably better psquad wr to roster IMO.

Yeah that is a narrative cooked up by the local talking heads about the Vikings not playing him because they don't want other teams to have any tape on him.

No question NFL front offices have more info on MoBo than we do. The Vikings are not hiding anything. If he was good he would be making plays.

There was a rumor that the Vikings were shopping Jarius Wright. He did stand out in the 4th preseason game playing across from Treadwell. Stave trying to make an impression kept going to Wright after Treadwell dropped a catchable ball. Back to the wall Stave was going to the guy he felt could make some plays for him, and that was Wright.

If the Vikings did trade Wright no garuntee that would have made room for MoBo. They likely would have kept Weatherly in that scenario I think.

No player is safe on the practice squad should another team want to pick him up.I am guessing most teams won't, even if they were interested in him during the draft process. Might as well let the Vikings develop him awhile before they might consider doing that.

So he "might" make the team?
Not likely.

I did read an interview with him awhile back and he did seem to be contemplating trying to kick return. Reading between the lines of his comments, he did not seem confident that he could make it as a WR (he still has so much to learn and improve on) but that he felt a bit more optimistic of having a shot on special teams.

The Vikings do need a kick returner, but MoBo is likely behind a lot of players in that category as well.

He is very athletic.

Doesn't seem like you would need years of coaching to be a kick returner.

Catch the kick "OK coach, got it"... run and don't get tackled "check".

Now that you have that figured out, here's the last thing ... DON'T FUMBLE!

I suppose.

There still may be other players on the team better suited for this role. It is up for grabs though.

Guy won't go away. Good luck to him then, must have something that teams like
6' 4" 229 lbs.

4.43 40

39" vert

10' 11" broad jump

The guy is a freak athlete.  If he knew how to run routes he could be incredible.  Unfortunately he doesn't and Minnesota couldn't teach him in the time he had there.  Maybe Cinci can.  Really hope so as he seems like a great person.

Gotta be more than that. Coachability, attitude, hustle, dedication.

It's not the draft he's eligible for anymore so he's not judged in comparison to people in his class but all NFL WRs. If you allow an inch, a half second, six inches on the last two- he's probably not OMG special and more toward regular. NFL WRs seem to be in three groups- possession, short n quick, or tall and fast. He'd just be in the last one.

"My" Titans have had Hunter, DGB, Turzilli, and McKay in recent years and they're all about the same stats you mention above. I think Hunter was best ever type at the combine or pro day.

Hunter looked so vastly different and improved last summer with the Steelers and made their team beating out some former draft picks. He looked like he'd be a bench contributor type but did next to nothing. He had to improve dramatically to make it.

DGB slow learner, not known for taking care of bod in offseason, out of league

Turzilli- great coach's pet type. Did nothing in college but every intangible you could possibly want. He's bounced team to team and is on the Giants buried

McKay was cut recently. Titans liked him and were rather surprised by him. Excellent student, challenges anyone, all heart. Pulled hammy bad, went on IR. Asked for injury settlement and joined the Bears last year. What the Bears did with WRs last year was beyond ridiculous. New coach made tons of changes to rectify and restore order, he was cut recently. He has several offers to join teams.

I could probably do this with every team- there's a clear line of dedication, hustle, heart, effort....intangibles that keep players around or end their careers quickly. Boehringer must have some good qualities

Excerpt from the article that I linked in the post above:

Boehringer joins the Bengals as a tight end, according to the team. He has a better shot at sticking this time around thanks to a roster exemption for an 11th practice squad player made available to AFC North teams as part of the Pathways program. He's also guaranteed an entire training camp as part of the program.

Excerpt from the article that I linked in the post above:
He has a better chance to become relevant for fantasy as a TE than a WR if he can actually make the final roster.

I recall considering him as a TE when the Vikings drafted him as well.

He doesn't know how to block either, so a lot of work involved and still a long shot to make the team but wish him the best of luck.

The NFL keeps doing things to make the league more accessible and popular outside of the US. There are a lot of these players trying to make rosters now. MoBo is just one of the most well known.

I'm sure he has all those traits.  He's also crazy athletic.  The Bengals wouldn't employ him if he was just all hustle and no athletic ability.  It takes it all.  Still, he's incredibly raw.  Lacks any real route running ability and probably will never make an actual NFL roster.  The only reason he's employed now is because of this new pathway program.  If he was making the type of progress needed to make coaches think he could make an NFL roster, he'd still be one of the 10 players on the Vikings' practice squad.

Mobump. Two divisions have an extra psquad spot for an international player. Since the rest of the league doesn’t have this, I imagine it wouldn’t be fair to allow them to carry and use an extra spot.

Practice squads aren't announced until after training camp breaks and the final rosters have been submitted.  Until then, he's just a guy fighting for a job like everyone else on the roster.

They have a new international player program, 2 divisions are participating this year (don’t know why they limited it to 2). So those 2 divisions have an extra psquad spot for an international player, but apparently can’t call them up.

Again, he's not officially on any practice squad yet. Sure they can designate him for that position after Training Camp, but that's not the situation he's currently in (based on my understanding).
They have announced the 8 players for the 8 teams, mobo will spend the year with the bengals.

Interesting TE designation.  Makes sense, they probably should do that with Auden Tate too and have them battle it out since Eifert isn't their future.  I'm rooting for the guy.
