Moritz Böhringer, WR Bengals - Taming the Stripes like Sigfried and Roy! (1 Viewer)

The train is still in the station and plenty of tickets still available.

I'll be in the dining car.
I'm a Vikings fan so of course I hope it works out.

Realistically I see him as a practice squad guy unless someone is interested in trading for Patterson or Johnson. Not sure any teams are.

It would be an amazing story if he actually made the team and produced like Gates and Colston kind of came out of no where. Even if he was modestly successful this might help other European players get scouted and perhaps drafted in the future like happened in basketball. If that did happen I can see a lot more interest being generated in football in Europe and perhaps more resources invested into the game as a result of the associated media coverage.

When I watch him I don't see developed route running and he looks a bit more like a receiving TE to me than a WR.

There was also Brock Lesner a few years back.
I still think he would have made it, if he would have stayed a bit longer. If I remember correctly he went and won UFC-title after that, so I have no doubt in my mind he could have carved a role in NFL- team.

Brock Lesnar's "few years" was like 12 years ago.. And he was far too slow to play DE and far too small to play DT.

Morehitz Bongripper is gonna light it up, I'm really high on his chance to spark the Vikings offense in a way that everybody gets lit.

You're right, sorry about that, but you got the point. I like players who own something that others don't, that's how you make it in the NFL.
I'm betting most NFL players can't speak fluid German - so there's another thing he owns that others don't.

This is a fast moving hype train GB. I understand if you can't handle it. That's ok we will let people into the bandwagon car outside US Bank stadium once he makes his first TD this fall.

On the TE spot....what's interesting is they took MOBO 8 spots before they took a flier on David Morgan, another TE flier....

Rudolph makes 7M per year.....and is not exactly the picture of health.   Not to mention they also took MOBO before the TE flier, as the buzz was growing on him with the Draft spotlight showing his predraft workout and Germany footage.

Why can't you put 20 pounds on him to see if he can be a TE, keep his speed and agility.

I'm looking out the window at USBank Stadium and I don't see anything resembling a bandwagon.

If I squint my eyes a lot, the stadium could be interpreted as the battleship Bismarck I suppose...

Why would they cut CP?  I would keep him strictly for his return ability.  I wouldn't pay him much to stay next year though.
With Boehringer's speed and agility he can return kicks at a minimum.  No need to keep Cordarelle.  I predict that Boehringer makes team and works as the primary KR guy this year.  How long he stays and whether he sees the field as a WR or TE in the future depends on the other questions like route running, blocking, and burst, which we just don't know yet because it is impossible to judge his competition.  Returning kicks, however, is speed, agility, and ball handling skills, and those are much more physical than anything else, so no reason to think he can't contribute on ST immediately while he refines his football skills.

If he can catch the punt/kickoff, have vision to pick the right path and can hold onto the ball.

Well to be fair we haven't gotten all the quotes in for wrapping the LRT with MoBo's face yet. But trust me the Green Line stop will be dedicated in his honor soon.

Imagine a 3D hologram of the German Flag projected onto that giant black metal facade in full view of Andy's office window.

I don't think this matters. They drafted Morgan because they thought he was the best blocking TE of the 2016 draft class. They have some concerns about Rhett Ellison recovering from patella injury he had late in the season.

Other teams certainly know about MoBo and either Zimmer or Spielman hinted at that which is why they used a 6th round pick on him. If other teams are genuinely interested then he may not be safe as a practice squad player as another team could pick him up at any time then.

I don't see room on the roster for him without the Vikings letting another of their WR go. So that would be Patterson, Theilen or Johnson. The Vikings already have 6 WR. Diggs, Wright and Treadwell are the most likely starters, They already had one more WR than they want to have active on game days, now they have seven. Two of these WR might not make the roster, so odds seem slim that the Vikings keep him.

Ignorant about what?

If most sixth round picks are wasted picks, and he's a sixth round pick with LESS experience than most sixth round picks, then isn't it MORE likely he was a wasted pick?

At least it's less of a waste as a 6th rounder than Patterson was as a 1st.

I'll say this though - your English is pretty good.
He is a 6th round pick with less experience, but I am betting his measurables are far greater than most 6th round picks, so I think that evens out. He was always going to be a low round pick, but that is what 6th rounders are for, guys who are good college players who don't measure up (worry is they can't handle the move up) and guys who weren't good college players but do measure up to NFL athletes. The question is can they get past their lack of measurements or get past their lack of experience/coaching.

Why keep Patterson?  Who is Theilen?

Why keep Patterson?  Who is Theilen?
Adam Theilen is a WR who started off a special teams specialist and a good one, to a player who gained more playing time as last season wore on. He made plays some times and he has legitimate speed as well as other WR skills. He is a player who could take over as a kick returner if the Vikings did get rid of Patterson. He may not be as athletic or explosive as Patterson is a kick returner, which is pretty special sometimes, but I think he would do a good job if they needed him to. He is also good in ways that Patterson is not. Such as running the correct route on time for Teddy. That is why he was playing over Patterson and Charles Johnson.

That said he is still kind of a bubble player. He is a favorite of coaches because of his can do attitude.

Patterson supposedly working on his route running this offseason. Patterson just turned 25 years old in March. I still think he could become a good player and he is younger than Charles Johnson who is now 27 and will be in the last peak year for a WR still developing next year. Tremendously gifted athlete as well that still hasn't put it all together yet. To me he seems like the first guy to go because at least Patterson does something better than the other players do. Return kicks. He is younger as well, so more chance he develops into something better than I would expect Johnson to improve at this stage of his career.

The Vikings will keep whoever they think is the best right now. I expect them to want to keep offensive linemen and not many spots for WR.

In 2017 the only WR assured a spot would be Treadwell, Diggs and maybe Jarius Wright. Those should be the starters in 2016.

Yup, anyone that is fast and agile is superb kick returner.

I think it's between Patterson, MoBo, and Charles Johnson for the last two roster spots.  Adam Theilen will never have the upside any of these 3 do, but he's everything they're not... reliable.  He's too important to special teams to not play him.  He runs the correct routes and catches the ball.

If I were to bet on it, I would bet that Charles Johnson is gone.  I think MoBo will also prove valuable on special teams and he has just as much upside as Johnson and is 4 years younger.

Although, if MoBo can show that he's a quality returner, I could see Patterson shown the door as well.

Why would Moritz prove valuable on special teams?

Charles Johnson could surprise this year. I'm still disappointed by last year - but he battled injury.

How does the PS work?  If the Vikes placed him on PS could another team claim him?

Not as a returner.  I have no idea if he is capable in that capacity as vision is the most underrated aspect of return men.  However, his speed/size combo and his perceived work ethic could make him a great gunner.

A team has to waive a player and he must clear waivers to be placed on the PS.  PS players are actually Free Agents.  Anyone else can sign them for no compensation. They are guaranteed three game checks at Full Pay status.

I'm not sure who you're asking about though.  If you are referring to Charles Johnson then he's not eligible.  Only a player with 2 or fewer Accrued Seasons can be put on a Practice Squad.  Moritz obviously qualifies if he cleared waivers.

Practice squad players are paid. To sign with another team they have to be offered a contract to their active squad and is guaranteed 3 full game salaries. If they are offered to join another practice squad they have to be offered a higher deal.

Players can't be signed from an opposing teams practice squad the week they are about to play each other, or two weeks if its a bye.

Other than that I think its a free for all.

They can't be signed to another PS without being cut first.

I didn't mean to imply PS players aren't paid, they are, but at a much reduced salary.  The Free Agent comment meant that any team can sign them to an active roster at Full Pay status at any time.

I meant Moritz. Like if he needed development but Johnson was kept.

I am a Viking fan so I obviously hope this kid is the real deal but I also think he is being over drafted in almost every dynasty league.  This is from Andrew Kramer ESPN'smailbag:

AK: Moritz Böhringer, the Vikings sixth-round pick, has looked as you’d expect for a player who’d never been through the rigor and duration of a NFL day full of meetings and practice. On his first day at rookie minicamp, he had to take a break from drills to throw up lunch on the sideline. During one of the first Organized Team Activity sessions open to media, Böhringer dropped three passes. He certainly looks the part (6-4, 227), and that’s why he has the opportunity. Though like many of his fellow receivers, he is not a lock to make the roster. He may be the farthest behind given where he started. It’ll only intensify from here as four hours are tacked onto Böhringer’s days this week, which is six weeks before training camp and real football begin.

ESPN Vikings reporter Ben Goessling believes sixth-round WR Moritz Bohringer will start his career on the practice squad.
Bohringer has admitted he is struggling with the "mental" part of the NFL game after playing four years in Germany, and he reportedly struggled with drops during OTAs and minicamp. The problem is the Vikings would risk losing Bohringer and his tremendous physical upside if they try to stash him on the practice squad. He is unlikely to make a 2016 impact, but it would not be surprising if he stuck around as a healthy scratch all season.
