White Castle on Route 9 before the GSP?
Yep, I think it was (is?) in Sayreville maybe? There was a Taco Bell there too, not far before the Edison/Driscoll bridges.
They've actually renovated that whole stretch recently, and I thought the White Castle was sure to be gone...but they actually remodeled that too. Shocking.
If only they hadn't closed the Roy Rogers on 9 in Manalapan, we might have gone there instead and none of this would ever have occurred.

It was replaced with a Wendy's IIRC.

Yeah, that's pretty much when I stopped going. Wendy's are a dime a dozen. Roy's was a magical place.

Fun Fact: A single Roy Rogers hamburger is the only fast food hamburger I have ever eaten.

In your LIFE? That's bizarre.... and pretty awesome for your future health prospects.

There are still a couple holdover RRs in the NYC area. Stumbling on one can really make a great day. Fixins bar FTW.

So I hear. Apparently, the DC area is lousy with them. I stopped at one in a Turnpike rest area a few years back and it sucked, all the food was old. You gotta hit the standalone locations. Unfortunately for me, nothing within about 1,000 miles. :kicksrock:

I know there used to be one virtually right across the street from MSG - is that still there?

Spent many, many nights in the 90s destroying burgers, chicken rings and onion rings on the hood of my buddy's jeep in the parking lot.

There's a decent chance I was in that parking lot as the same time as you at one point. We stopped there for late night eats almost every time we went to NYC, which was not uncommon in the late 80s-mid/late 90s.

GD it. That's one I may have had the ability to hit before too much longer.

Last I knew, there was a Roy Rogers on the PA Turnpike, heading west, between Philly and Harrisburg. It's about 45 minutes outside of Harrisburg, IIRC.

The Hamilton service area on the Turnpike in Secaucus has a Roy Rogers. You'd probably have a decent chance to hit that one too since it's so close to the tunnel. I think they may not have a Fixins bar though.

I actually went thru a WC surf and turf phase for a month or two. When I'd order them the car would erupt in laughter.

My friend's older brother (guy who bought 39 Rotatoes and gives them to his brother every year for Xmas) was a surf & turf whore. Ordered them by the sackful. I never got it, to be honest.

Side note, he weighs about 350 lbs.

Turnpike and GSP Roy Rogers are awful, not the same thing IMO.
Agreed. But from a nostalgia standpoint, it'll work in a pinch.

I went to a pretty decent one up on the NYS Thruway last year on the way up to Vermont. Then again, I was pretty ####faced after taking the day off and drinking for the first Friday of the NCAA tourney, so my perspective could be a little off.

3 Roy Rogers within 20 minutes of each other here. Leesburg loves some dem' fixins
I was down near Fredricksburg (I think that's the name) and they had a Roy Rogers and a Waffle House near each other. I seriously thought about moving there.

Once I finished a starter and a main course in a tex-mex restaurant just outside of Houston. I must have gained five pounds...

mmmmm Cracker Barrel. I love that place. Lust even. My kids are always with me whenever I am there but I could absolutely see myself obliterating that place with a bunch of friends.

It bothers me, in this day and age, there is still a restaurant with a racial epithet in it's name. It's 2015, people! Time to call it the White Barrel! :hot:

Had breakfast there last weekend. Ordered the Country Boy over medium. I didn't realize just how much food would be coming. 3 eggs, an 8 oz steak, fried apples, buttered grits, 2 biscuits with sausage gravy, cheesy hash brown casserole, toast with butter and preserves, it was almost never-ending. Then of course, my wife gives me another fried egg and 2 strips of bacon off her plate. I had plates running 3 deep to my right, I had to finish one and rotate it to the back of the line. I waddled out of there - I can't even imagine the calories and cholesterol I ingested. :X

Had a chicken wing eating contest with some guys from work. They had done it a few times before and the record was like 3 dozen. I was pretty confident I was going to take the prize if that was the record.....

96 chicken wings later me and another guy agreed to quit at a tie. I literally don't think I could have eaten another, by the end we were forcing them down.

I did a dirty south road trip with the wife. We flew into New Orleans, and then road-tripped it from Baton Rouge or so where her friend lived, up to Atlanta for a wedding over the course of 2 days. We played "Count the Waffle Houses." There stretches of highway where there was literally one at every exit. I'm convinced Waffle Houses are the cheapest restaurants in the world to build. There's basically a cinderblock rectangle with windows on 2 sides, a large griddle and cook station in the middle with bar seating, and the only walls are around the bathroom and the freezer area. They can probably build one in a few weeks tops.

But damn if the chicken and Eggs combo isn't awesome (Chik breast, 2 eggs any style, bacon, grits (that's key), hashbrowns, and toast). I dont' even know if they still have that, but it used to be like $5.95 for all that. So good.

I love WH. Closest one to us is about 30 minutes away. Totally worth the drive.

Their pecan pancakes are easily my favorite pancakes.

I went to an all you can eat wing night and ate 56 wings. The issue was, they brought you plates of 10 wings at a time. And each plate was less fried and had less sauce. The last plate was pretty much raw wings and no sauce. Pretty sure I ended up with some sort of salmonella type symptoms after that.

Lobster buffet at The Manor in East Orange.

The slice the tails in half down the middle. I took out 18 of them for 9 lobster tails. Add to that a few plates of cocktail shrimp, few lamb chops and a trip or two to the desert bar.

####### food coma that night.
I've gone to town at that place too.
Me too, but since it's my hometown, I feel obligated to point out it's West Orange. And I did 10 tails and a few rolls once at that buffet. Never again.

FWIW, any real man should be able to crush 16 white castles. I venture to say I could eat 24 (a crave case) without issue.

Yes my mistake. Big, big difference, lol. (Not joking)

About 30 pieces of sushi.
Ohhhhh my buddy and I after a 10k went to an all you can eat sushi bar in Vegas (Henderson, actually). Together we had 11 rolls (various types, but they were the heavy/loaded ones), 6 baked appetizers, 8 bowls of cucumber salad, and a mound of edamame. I think I even got some dumplings too. It was glorious.
Yeah, the 30 pieces of sushi is just my standard run-of-the-mill over doing it. If I really, really tried to eat as much as I possibly could, I think I could down 50-60 pieces of sushi/nigiri. Add sashimi (no rice) to the mix and it's a new ballgame.
I was feeling like a bit of an outcast when I read 30 bits of sushi. Round 1 for me is two spicy salmon rolls and 13 salmon sushi aka 25 pieces and thats round one.

I probably could but White Castle man...tastes great in your mouth but they're belly bombs. You're on the toilet then entire next day. On top of that they're like hot dogs, you spend the next 12 hours burping up their taste. Blahhhh.

There used to be one near me in Brooklyn Center and I would hammer that Country Boy Poached. Would ask for some greens in addition to everything you mentioned and they would come no charge. Of course I would take mom and dad and mom would give me half her scrambled eggs, grits, and biscuit. Dad would give me half his spicy blackened catfish and some of his Mac n cheese and turnip greensI miss that place but I swear as much cholesterol as I consumed, I left that place a walking solid

Fun to knock back a sack with some onion chips the night before you have a morning flight or are gonna be in a vehicle with your twin brother and two buddies driving to Green Bay from the Twin Cities. If I'm having some Guinness with them...my ### is violating Geneva Conventions

1.5 pound burger at the Las Vegas Club, surrounded by a sea of fries. Went back to my room and took a nap. When I came around, I had a 22-ounce Everclear Mudslide at Mermaids. The entire next day was a lost cause. :porked:
I interpreted this as you crapping in the fountain of some hotel lobby.
