Hearing him talk made him seem even more unlikely, as he is a Kiwi.Bill Wennington (wife and I were watching The Last Dance and she goes, "wait, that guy was actually a player?" - led to me explaining the whole errant philosophy of 80s NBA that the center needed to just be really tall)
Eh, you really just need to see him swing once or move and you realize quickly how talented he is. Kinda like Wade Boggs, Tony Gwynn, Hunter Renfrow, the Manning brothers, a number of hockey players, etc. where their initial appearance isn't impressive but they do one thing and you're like, "ah, got it."Babe Ruth needs to be on this list
Really? Pretty short list if thats the case.I take this list to be that they look unathletic even while playing.
Get in my belly!
He's Canadian.RedmondLonghorn said:Hearing him talk made him seem even more unlikely, as he is a Kiwi.
Born in Montreal and moved to LI for HS and then played for St. John's.could be ex-pat Kiwi, no?
Maybe you're thinking of their white center for the second half of the run Luc Longley?Huh. I would have sworn he was from NZ. My bad.
yeah, those REDMEN with Wenny and Mullin and Berry and "the point god" (Jackson - thanks, Vescey!) ... was Glass on that last Mullin squad?Born in Montreal and moved to LI for HS and then played for St. John's.
ETA: He's probably thinking of Luke Longley now that I think of it.
I think Glass may gave been afterwards, but not sure. Don’t forget about unsung hero Matt Brust.yeah, those REDMEN with Wenny and Mullin and Berry and "the point god" (Jackson - thanks, Vescey!) ... was Glass on that last Mullin squad?
Yes!Tyson Fury
Yes Glass was on the Final Four squad.yeah, those REDMEN with Wenny and Mullin and Berry and "the point god" (Jackson - thanks, Vescey!) ... was Glass on that last Mullin squad?
Hey is an Aussie.Maybe you're thinking of their white center for the second half of the run Luc Longley?
He became more of the man after Mullin left but they overlapped.I think Glass may gave been afterwards, but not sure. Don’t forget about unsung hero Matt Brust.

Not to mention he had the best career after he hung them up. Owned a donut & pastry shop.Da Guru said:Mickey Lolich`s stats for 1971 are incredible in many ways. Lolich pitched every 4th day, tossed 363 innings, 308Ks and did not miss a start. Lolich was 25-19 in 1971 with 29 complete games.
To compare with former Tigers, Justin Verlander has 26 complete games in his 15 year career. Max Sherzer has 9 complete games in 12 seasons.
I was hoping someone mentioned him before I got in here. Still my favorite baseball player.Kirby Puckett
I read where he was pissed off at Mike Illitch for decades. After the 68 World Series Illich was just getting LC off the ground and hired Lolich on a 2 year deal for TV and Radio ads, and to show up at store openings and whatever needed. Lolich wanted to get into the pizza business after playing as well. Not to mention he had the best career after he hung them up. Owned a donut & pastry shop.

Think he’s about 79 now and fully retired. Back in the early 70s he had a cottage on Bass Lake (few miles from where I grew up), we would see him and his wife riding snowmobiles on local trails or out to dinner with his family at restaurants. My sister babysat his 3 girls a few times. Great guy, always smiling.
... prolly ran better than some of my "hunches"
I think it's still too soon after his ball cancer diagnosis. How has Marshall Faulk not been mentioned???
hell that guy was a lean, mean, fightin' machineRick Barry was not exactly a specimen of being in good shape.
First one to come to mind. A deceptive athlete at his playing weight; wonder what he could have been if he’d cut his weight in half.Oliver Miller - Even heavier than Barkley, but was unbelievably light on his feet, had a great handle and a nice shooting touch
One name that really checked out. He looked like a giant ball.Any NFL nose tackle.
I remember when Jerry Ball played for the Lions, Ball was 6-0 about 330. If he played more than 2 downs in a row he was gassed, but man he could stuff the run.
Eaton is still in the top 10 all time for blocked shots and is considered the best Utah Jazz center of all time.Mark Eaton (okay, he wasn't actually an athlete at all, but he did play pro basketball) - Lurch in basketball shorts. He wasn't athletic at all, but he made a lot of money being tall.
One of my claims to fame - I was stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque in 1990, the same time Luc was attending UNM. I blocked his shot in a pick-up game, and a year later he was the 7th overall pick in the NBA draft. BTW, I was 5'10" and about 160 at the time.Born in Montreal and moved to LI for HS and then played for St. John's.
