Most Underrated Stars in the game? (1 Viewer)

There are some guys who are stars but just don't get the respect they deserve. Who is yours and why?

My pick goes to A. Boldin. The guy is off to one of the better starts ever by an NFL WR and gets over shadowed by Fitzgerald another young star on his team.

Honourable mentions:

D. Driver one of the most consistent WR's in the game the last 3 seasons

Alge Crumpler (homer pick) - Plays in an offense which throws the ball less than anyone (seriously, check out his target #s) and still manages to put up numbers comparable to the best TEs in the game. Unlike the other prima donnas, he also blocks too.

Asomugha before his pro bowl. Lee Evans - plays in Buffalo.

Going a little defensive.

Even though he just got paid a boatload of money making him a little less underrated. Aaron Schobel is quietly one of the best DE's in the NFL.

Kampman for the Packers may be the most complete DE in the NFL. He plays the pass and run very well.

The other guy Shaun in San Diego, Philips while not as good as Merriman is still a very good player in his own right. He's gotten better every year and he and Merriman combine for the best pass rushing tandem in the NFL.

DJax

Always finishes in or around WR15(2005 excepted). The following year he is ALWAYS projected/ranked outside the top 20. I realize he seems to get dinged up, but at the end of the year, there he is at WR10-WR15.

I'm curious to know if you base this upon observation of the actual play on the field or the numbers in the box scores and fantasy rankings? If based on actual play, can you estimate how many Seahawk games you've watched?I'm of the opinion that the true stars in Seattle are head coach Mike Holmgren and LT Walter Jones. Everyone else is just a solid role player (including Shaun Alexander). I believe Jackson's statistics are a product of the system and in no way believe that he's worthy of being called a "star". I think he's a slightly better than average starting receiver in the NFL and that San Francisco fans will understand what I'm referring to by the end of the season.

Can one of the best WRs in the game be underrated? Yes.

Marvin Harrison.

Second only to Jerry Rice as the greatest WR of all time.

But not many people make statements like that about Marvin.

And he continues to quietly go about his business.

Going to put on my Homer hat here.

Demeco Ryans is severely underrated. He deserved All Pro last year and instead he doesn't even make the Pro Bowl. Guy's got a head for football. Coaches have said he's got the recognition skills already of a 6 or 7 year veteran.

That'll hopefully change this year, when the Texans continue to do better on the win-loss record and people stop discounting him just because he didn't play for a Super Bowl participant.

Santana Moss. The guy is basically as good as the best elite receivers. He has languished with the recent offense/QB situation at Washington. But he has elite speed and hands, with perhaps the best in-air adjustment to the ball among active WRs. He is one of the best with the ball in the open field, making guys miss with ease. Gets good separation, running sharp routes. As complete a receiver as there is.

I love Harrison but in my original post I said Boldin let us comapre the 2 through their first 4 years:HarrisonGames Played: 60catches: 311yards: 4141TD's: 33Boldin:Games Played: 56catches: 342yards: 4605TD's: 20Boldin stacks up pretty well in everything but TD's against the second greatest WR of all time through their first 4 years in the league and that is in 4 less games, yet Boldin continues to play second fiddle to Fitz and is still an after thought when people list the top WR's in the game. But statistically speaking Boldin is off to one of the better starts in WR history through 56 games played.

He's drafted in the 2nd round, so underrated a little yes. You can add Holt tooThis year Javon Walker based on a few games last year by a rookie QB. Some have him rated in the 20's and the last time he was healthy he was top 5(with Favre).

Games Played: 60

catches: 311

yards: 4141

TD's: 33

Boldin:

Games Played: 56

catches: 342

yards: 4605

Who cares about Harrison's early years...Comparing Boldin to Harrison's early years really means jack ####. Harrison has had EIGHT seasons in a row with over 80 catches and 1100 yards

Ha ha, oh yes, no relevance in comapring Boldin's frist 4 years to one of the best WR's to play the game. 4 years is not a small sample size either. I am not saying Boldin is going to surpass Harrison and what he has done, as I don't think he will, but he does not get enough credit for what he has accomplished in his young career.

Amani Toomer, though he is past his prime by a LONG shot. However, that prime saw 5 consecutive years of over 1000 yards and at least 5 TDs (averaging 1150 and 6+ Tds over that span).
