That is one more than I thought they had...It's because of movies like this that Blockbuster Video is down to just one store.
This is probably the kind of movie where going in people need to know that it's not a normal movie rather than spending over an hour trying to figure out what the F is remotely going on.Rotten Tomatoes: Critics Consensus: There's no denying that mother! is the thought-provoking product of a singularly ambitious artistic vision, though it may be too unwieldy for mainstream tastes.
You mean the director of 3 of the best movies of the 00s?The name "Darren Aronofski" is the first tip-off here.
I don't agree with them, and I am definitely not going to go to bat for mother!, but I would rather suffer through a swing and a miss like this than 80% of the soulless crap that is pumped out on a yearly basis. But there are plenty of movie critics who will tell you how great it really was.![]()
That in no way negates my point. You mean the director of 3 of the best movies of the 00s?

Yep, listening to an interview with him and it seemed to be a blend of things he was grappling with. I think environment was at the forefront with religion and relationships in general in the mix.So from what I've read after it was over, it's a metaphor for Earth and God. And the ####### people are... just people. The obvious Bible stuff in the beginning aside, it seems to be a message that humans are killing the planet. Take that for what it's worth.
I guess I missed the point then. That in no way negates my point.
This movie is like a critics wet dream.Yep, listening to an interview with him and it seemed to be a blend of things he was grappling with. I think environment was at the forefront with religion and relationships in general in the mix.
No surprise a good number of critics would be on board for that.
I have to agree. Black Swan and The Wrestler were really good. Requiem for a Dream came out the year I graduated from HS and it left it massive impression on me- it's the most terrifying horror movie I have ever seen. Also the most realistic. In life, our tragedies rarely come at the hands of a ghost in the dark but most often from our own decisions. You mean the director of 3 of the best movies of the 00s?
This is part of my problem with it - I watched it based on the previews alone which were very misleading. I like to go into a movie with as clean a slate as possible and the previews sucked to tell me what to expect. So from what I've read after it was over, it's a metaphor for Earth and God. If you want a clean of a slate as possible, why bother with previews at all? I think they have become worse and worse over the years, and don't actively seek them out anymore. They are either misleading (which I agree 100% happened here), or they give away damn near 1/2 the movie - especially for horror and comedies. This is part of my problem with it - I watched it based on the previews alone which were very misleading. Also, the movie should stand alone and not need an explanation by the director - same premise as having to explain a joke.
I dont think the director needed to explain it. It was pretty obvious what the whole movie was symbolism for. It was just stupid. This is part of my problem with it - I watched it based on the previews alone which were very misleading.
