Motorcyclists bother me with their "Watch for us, we're vehicles too. We want to be safe!" And then they weave back and forth down the middle of two lanes or in the breakdown lane, in traffic or not, making it hard for drivers to see them.
I also don't buy the "we don't have radiators, so we should be able to move as we wish in traffic." If your vehicle can't operate in all areas of the roadway, then it shouldn't be there.
When riding a motorcycle you need to ride like everything is trying to kill you. Cars, pedestrians, wildlife, road debris, etc. Pretty much defensive driving to the extreme. Like you are invisible. Avoiding confrontation is part of that. We hear about road rage stories all the time. How are you going to win one of those on a motorcycle vs a car?
Some of the comments in the article don't make sense. Slowing down to give yourself more reaction time when an aggressive driver is behind you? Not being able to get away because there wasn't enough traffic?
He didn't deserve to get wrecked, but there are nutjobs out there and part of riding a motorcycle is knowing that.
I was behind a guy texting at a red light, and when the light turned green, he sat there for about 10 seconds. I honked to get his attention, and he flipped me off.....
Web, I am not for ramming. Maybe it is just me but I work on the same street the police in Raleigh keep/repair their patrol vehicles. There are always police around this area. The police don't give a crap about driving violations for the most part. The have seen red lights run, illegal u-turns, extremely aggressive driving and yet to see someone pulled over by a cop who was right in front of me at the light. So what this guy was thinking I have no idea.
