mound ball (1 Viewer)

Yesterday, I introduced some friends to mound ball. Basically we all throw a $ into a cup. The cup gets passed around after each at bat. If the cup is in your possesion for a K's ($) , double plays ($$) and last out ($). Plus you had to chug a beer if you guy was out looking. You pulled for hits ($ for a single, $$ for a double, etc.) And of course if you had the cup at the end of the inning and the entire ball stay on the mound you keep the contents of the cup ($$$$). Anytime the cup fell below $5 everyone tossed in another $. Keeps the interest of even the casual fan. Oh by the way 3 mound balls yesterday, biggest take $17.

Ok, now explain this in English
Ok here you go, I thought more people were familar with mound ball.At the end of each inning the umpire throws a new baseball towards the pitching mound. 9 times out of 10 the ball rolls off of the pitching mound and winds up in the grass. Hence mound ball. Now to make things interesting during a rather dull game here is what you do. First you need to get a cup. Everyone puts $1 in the cup. You are holding the cup when the game begins. If the batter gets a single you remove $1 and put it in your pocket, a double you take $2, a triple you take $3 and a homer you take $4. If he strikes out you add a $1 to the cup and pass it to the next guy. Same rules apply only now you introduced the double play (a double play can't happen to the lead off man!), which will cost $2. To add a little fun we said if you are holding the cup on strike out looking you had to chug your beer. If you have the cup for the last out of an inning it also costs you a $1. Now if the ball stays on the mound you keep the entire contents of the cup and you start the game all over with everyone ante up. p.s. This is great fun for those who take their children to the game. Instead of running around buying over priced concessions and souveniers your kids get so interested in paying attention to where the ball ends up and how the batter does. Of course you can make the stakes lower because it is your money they are playing with but it is still great fun. Try it out.

Will probably break this out at Fenway next monday when we're at the rangers game

Has always been fun till around 7th inning when we're half in the bag and someone's always up getting beer or in the bathroom.
