Part of the problem is that Chris Hemsworth needs an equalizing force to balance out a movie. Tom Hiddleston is really great as Loki, and is by far, the better actor and more dynamic, which lets Hemsworth play the simpler straight man role. In Rush, which was a fantastic movie and I'm disappointed it didn't win Best Picture, the guy who played Nicky Lauder was also fantastic, letting Hemsworth shift into a simpler role, not having to carry the movie himself. Heart of the Sea, the flash forwards to the present time was a poor narrative choice. Worked in something like Interview Of The Vampire because there was a sense of real dread and time lapse involved. Then asking Hemsworth to get balanced out by a CGI whale was asking just too much.
