Moving to San Diego (1 Viewer)

I recommend you go to Del Mar and think about it. :deadhorse:
Thanks, Sonny. The problem is, it's too far from my BIL and where my in-laws want to live. I am constrained...
I was just screwin around. I meant that you should go to the races...and meet me for a beer while you're there.
We should corn hole this. I'll take the train down
OK, we're doing this.

Hey, can I join in on the fun?

NERDS.

LOL, I guess this is happening. We rented a pad in the beach colony down there so it doesn't matter to me when...you guys find a day that works.

Although don't pick Pacific Classic Day, obviously. Actually, weekdays are probably better for this now that I think about it. I can for sure get us a box near the finish line, above the winner's circle. First post isn't until 4:00 on Fridays, btw. 2:00 Wednesdays and Thursdays...

You didn't rent a house on 26th by any chance? Buddy of mine rented his house out for a month to folks for the races. Would be a crazy coincidence.

I suggest the beerfest day at Del Mar on 8/24. I went to the one on the 26th. Female contingent quite strong.

Beerfest would be great but that's Pacific Classic Day. It's packed -- good luck with seating -- and I will be in the Turf Club with friends.

GunZ, the home is not on 26th...close though.

Update. After seeing more than 60 properties, we have gone under contract on a home in Santee. I read the comments earlier in the thread about Santee, which didn't seem too complimentary, but the neighborhood and surrounding area seem nice.

We will need internet service, etc. I'm leaning towards DirectTV, which I've never had, instead of cable. But we will still need internet and I anticipate my wife and in-laws will want home phone service rather than relying solely on cell phones, so we'll need that, too.

Any recommendations on this?
If you are in a Cox area and want a landline, their internet/cable/landline deal is pretty good. They get all the channels I could ask for too. Time Warner sucks out here (and everywhere?) Haven't heard good things about Uverse either.

ETA: and Cox has Redzone. If you are a Charger fan, no ned for Sunday ticket obviously, so Redzone when the Chargers aren't playing is all you need. And sometimes when the Chargers are playing redone is the way to go as well. They don't always sell out, and Redzone moves too fast to block out their clips (or whatever loophole they have for that).
"Are you a Chargers fan? :handspowderbluejersey: You are now."

Heading out for the annual boys trip on Thursday. Staying at the Del Mar Hilton. Going to the races Thursday, Friday and Saturday for sure. Not sure about Sunday, though my buddy has a horse going in the feature so I might stay. Golfing Friday morning at The Crossings in Carlsbad before the races. Going to hit up a few places. Probably won't do the big Red Tracton's dinner this year. Will go for some appy's and cocktails The Brigantine, Poseidon (views only), Jake's, etc. Need a good Mexican joint. Reading about Tony's Jacal in Solana Beach on Yelp. Locals - any ideas? What other spots am I missing?

Let me know if any other FBG'rs are hitting up the races this weekend. Love a Del Mar fix!!!

Decent chance I'm at the track on Sat. Will likely be with the family (2 kids under 5) but would probably be able to sneak away for 10 minutes, buy you a beer, and shake you hand. I'll let you know later in the week via PM.

Welcome to SD JWB. If you need zoo tickets let me know. I have several left to give out still this year. I can answer any questions about getting your MMJ card too. I also have a complete list of all 85 breweries in San Diego county. I've been here 4 years and have only made it to about a third of them but I'm always game to check another one off the list!

Would love to cornhole too if that's happening

Have you played there before? It's a nice place to play, clubhouse restaurant is good, but the course drives me nuts. You can tell they didn't have enough space to do a proper layout so they trick up the greens and pin placements to make it more challenging. The ride from 11th green to 12th tee is ridiculous, you have to drive the entire length of 12 to get to the tee. Blue is under 6.500 and it's still a 129 slope. Playing from the tips doesn't make much difference. Pay close attention to the pins.

Yeah, played it once when I stayed at the Hilton timeshares next door. I agree it's tricked up. We really wanted to have more of a fun round, and our choice was Encinitas Ranch. Only problem is they have a 144 player shotgun on Friday. We usually play Maderas or one of the other inland courses. But the drive back has been hell trying to get back to the track. Felt at least the Crossings was an easier drive. No courses near the track where we can get on easily. Any ideas?

I love Maderas, but it is a bit pricier and the 56 commute is a beast in the late afternoon. You might check out Twin Oaks in San Marcos:

A little farther than the Crossings, but an easier return trip than Maderas and a better golf experience than the Crossings or "easy" ranch, imo. It's actually my favorite local track in this price range.

I never play Encinitas Ranch. There are basically no trees so they grow the rough out. At least that's how it was years ago. lol, I seem like a real curmudgeon here...

In the general vicinity of The Crossings I'd recommend Twin Oaks or Arrowwood instead but that doesn't help with your Del Mar drive. Not an expert on the other courses in the county closer to Del Mar. You are looking at about 30-45mins to the Del Mar parking lot from any of these places. Then it'll take you 30mins to walk inside and get situated. First post on Friday is 4pm so as long as you are done with 18 by 2pm you should be fine. If I were you I'd play Arrowwood or Twin Oaks around 9am. But The Crossings is fine too if you like the course.

Valence is a good dude. Just met him last week at the zoo. My kids still say the best part of the day was getting scared by the polar bear "knocking the cage over." Thanks, Valence!!

Fidel's in Solana Beach.

Just win,

Can you make a wed or Thursday at the track in the next 3 weeks?
Probably not. We are still in chaotic transition mode, and my wife's disability is an issue. Once we move into our house at the end of the month I will have more flexibility.
