My countdown list of one hit wonders- 1. Play That Funky Music (Wild Cherry) (2 Viewers)

I just listened to it again all the way through. I swear I've never heard it before. Maybe I conflated it with another song (4 non blondes?) and my brain just morphed it with that. Anyway, awful song.

FYI @wikkidpissah hasn't been the same since you ranked Cars in the 90's. The thread may have done some serious damage.

I absolutely conflate it with this.

Back to important matters, do we need to get the Ombudsman in here for an official protest?

Hmm 4 more songs left from the early 90s. My guess, based on the comments here, is you guys will hate at least 2 of them. Not sure how you’ll feel about the other 2.

It's your list and all and it's been a fun thread but I can't believe the last 4 songs made the top 100 much less the top 40. I don't think I've ever heard Joey before. How can Cars be in the 90's but these latest songs are where they are? Honestly thinking about logging an official protest.
It is a fun thread but I don't recognize many of these songs either.  I'm not young but many of these songs are a little before my time.  I like a lot of popular music from the 60s and 70s but some of those one hit wonders must not have been popular for long or something.

31. “I Can See Clearly Now”- Johnny Nash (1971)

I can’t seem to confirm it anywhere but I suspect this is the first time reggae (even this very pop form of it) hit the American charts.

Anyhow this is one of those early 70s feel good songs in the mode of “Here Comes the Sun”. Lyrics and melody are rather timeless: gonna be a bright, bright, bright sunshiny day! Lots of people love the Jimmy Cliff cover.

The first reggae hit in the U.S. was probably Johnny Nash's "Hold Me Tight" in 1968:

Before that, there was Millie Small's "My Boy Lollipop" (#2 hit in 1964) which capitalized on the burgeoning "ska" format which later spun off into reggae.

I predict I’ll like at least three of them. Then again, I like “Joey”, so apparently I’m already bent at a weird angle.

I had this 45.

30. “Disco Inferno”- The Trammps (1976)

You can’t watch this video and not love these guys- except, who is the goofy looking white dude on keyboards? How did he get in there anyhow?

This song didn’t do well on the charts initially, and the group was going nowhere. Then it was included as part of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, and the rest as they say, was history. Now it’s a staple of the era. Because it’s awesome.

This is the rockin', foot stompin' disco song I had in mind.

Any candy left on your 90's list?
Interesting that you ask.

No, but Bow Wow Wow’s “I Wanf Candy” makes a lot of people’s one hit wonder lists, which seems odd to me because I became aware of that band in high school due to the song “Do You Wanna Hurt Me” which got a lot of radio play. So I don’t consider them eligible.

man, I hate disco ...hated it then, hate it now.

BUT ...I was in that time, we went to discos to pick up girls.  Wore the clothes, did the drugs, and it all brings back great memories.

you could not get away from this song for years in the 70s and early 80s.

I had Marcy Playground in mind, Sex and Candy, which upon reflection is a not top 100 material; but the nostalgia feels nice.

Is your #1 song performed by a guy from Philly?

ETAsk: Does he have massive sideburns?
